This is odd and to be honest thought may happy as he was not included for the Iceland friendly. Such a shame as seems a top keeper. Seems he was last named on standby by Brian Flynn in Under 21 squad for the friendly international against Hungary in Haverfordwest in 2011. We have a player playing in the championship but not included over two keepers who have yet to play senior football. Must be a reason?

Lewis Price isn't even having regular football but he's in the senior squad before Jonathan Bond :/

Bonds official twitter page has him in his Wales top for his profile pic. All a bit odd. Could it just be poor squad selection from Williams?!

Personally I'd have Bond nowhere near the senior squad.
Presumably he'd not miss a Championship game if he was called up as there are no fixtures? in which case it could be we've agreed to not risk injuring him because Watford are short of fit keepers (aren't they? He wouldn't be playing otherwise surely?)
If there is a game for Watford he would be better off playing in that than the U21s or benchwarming for the seniors

Llannerch, thank you for this. Only speculation but yours is the most likley at the moment. I cannot believe that there is no single Journalist who has asked the question. Not to be in the u21 squad is especially odd.

Has Cornell outgrown the U21s?

I'm a bit perturbed by this- the good news is that the lad sees himself as Welsh as he is wearing a Wales top in his profile picture. That's a very good sign. I just wish there was some explanation of this, that we have allowed him to play for Watford to avoid injury makes sense, also there are only two keepers named, is it normal to name three? If so, then that may corroborate the suspicion about him being left out due to club commitments.

Has Cornell outgrown the U21s? I ask only because he played for Swansea's U21 team the other night in the game Neil Taylor made his comeback.

According to wiki, thats the last squad that was picked last season. Fair play, its a strong looking squad, and you could add Declan John (Cardiff) to that. What about Dummett (Newcastle) too?

Hopefully 4 or 5 of them can become premiership players in the next few years
Huws, Lawrence and Isgrove are probably best placed, I also have hopes for Hewitt, Dawson, Thompson and possibly Evans as he is progressing quickly for a young player

I know some of the posters on here know a lot more than me on the quality of our young players coming through but the list above looks very, very encouraging.

The future does indeed look exciting. We owe John Toshack and Brian Flynn so much for starting the youth revolution!

Of our U21 squad-, Huws (Man City), Isgrove (Southampton), John (Cardiff) have been in and around their EPL teams pre-season first teams and could play in the prem this season. Maybe Jonathan Williams (Crystal Palace) will be in the U21 squad too.
The following played in the opening championship games of the season: Freeman (Derby), Hewitt (Ipswich)
The following played in league one: Evans (Wolves), Ray (Crewe,) Walsh (Crawley)
....nearly a whole outfield. Promising.

suprised that Declan John isn't in the Under 21s squad - having played a full game in Cardiff's first team againgst Cheivo and lots of Cardiff fans expecting him to start in the prem against West Ham.

as someone else posted it may have been agreed that he is better off establishing himself in the Cardiff team, a few days away with Wales will probably give them an excuse to bring back a more experienced player.
Personally don't agree with it as Mackay will go back to Taylor as soon as his suspension finishes

On the matter of Huws - sounds like he's the best of the bunch but the depressing thing is he's least likely of all to get game time once the season starts due to the club he's at.
How many Home-grown U21s have come through at city since the feudal middle eastern robber barons took over? Unless he is something quite extraordinary, he'd better get out of that club ASAP.

You could be right but a mate of mine is a massive Man City fan and he is getting excellent reviews from Man City fans, plus there is much frustration at the lack of home grown talent coming through. I gather that this is amongst the fans and the board. I think that a good Championship club should take him on loan.

Burns is injured. Lucas at CB? Lawrence is a striker?
Looks a good side. Can't wait till we play England so we can actually watch them play........

So, I talk up our current U21 crop, and what happens?
3-0 down at home to Finland after half an hour...
I'll keep my mouth shut next time.
(gotta say, some strange selctions- no Lee Evans?)
