One day to go, very excited for tomorrow night. There is so much riding on this game for both teams it's going to be a classic.
Team trains in a full session for the final time today.

I didn't feel like this before we qualified for the euros. I guess we only 3 points from the last 3 games. We need a Belgium at home performance tomorrow

Can someone advise on Ireland's situation? If they win tomorrow, do they still need results to go their way?

Is it really too much to ask that once in my lifetime I get to see Wales at a World cup?!?!
(A proper world cup, not that Qatar winter bullshit)

Can someone advise on Ireland's situation? If they win tomorrow, do they still need results to go their way? I believe that there is no way they can be eliminated by other results. Results today can only affect how much they need to win by. If Serbia lose and Ireland win, Ireland can win the group with a massive swing on goal difference- emphasis on the 'massive'

If Ireland wins they will end the worst runner up unless one result goes for them else where. They need one of these results Slovenia not to lose to scotland Norway to score a few goals in a win against n Ireland Georgia beat Serbia Ukraine and Croatia to draw . There are a couple of other unlikely results like Romania must hammer Denmark etc .

I think Ledley is far more suited to this type of game in that role than Andy King. This is the team I'd go for: Hennessey
Gunter Chester Williams Davies
Allen Ledey
Joniesta Ramsey Lawrence
Robson-Kanu Woodburn on for J Williams after 50 odd mins if we need a goal.

I think i'd start with the exact same team as the Georgia game but with HRK instead of Vokes. King had a great game so dropping him would be extremely harsh IMO.

Its an important point, we should at least be looking for the scenario that means that Ireland have the least to play for or requires them to score an unrealistic amount of goals so their gameplan is massively affected and easier for us to read and plan for.

I agree. If they were only looking for a draw, they'd be likely to be far more defensive. As they now surely realise that the pressure's on and they have to give it everything, they're surely going to have to come out of their shell and be far more open. Although I do still predict there will be a bit of a deadlock for at least the first twenty minutes. It will be interesting to see how they react to the atmosphere in the stadium. From what I'm reading right now, they seem to be entirely unphased.

I'm not sure that would reflect well on us as Welsh fans tbf (unless there is foul play). I guess the intention is to create a hostile atmosphere- in extreme cases that can affect a player's performance to a certain extent, famously Galatasaray's welcome to hell nonsense against Man United in the 90's seemed to shake the players out of their stride a bit. I don't think we should be worried about anything legal reflecting badly on us - its all part of home advantage, didn't the Irish do some nonsense with the tannoy during our game against them? We should do what we can to make the atmosphere as tense and unpleasant for them to play in as possible. On the whole though I don't think the CCS is considered an intimidating place to go either atmosphere wise or geographically so the Irish won't be phased.

Belgium got pelters in possession during the 1-0 in Cardiff, and the atmosphere that night was widely admired.

Wow, it is all about opinions! I thought he was marginally better than previous games but his heading of the ball is atrocious for someone to whom it should be bread and butter and I don't feel that he suits the way we approach games. HRK has scored some quality goals for West Brom and is all round just a better player than Vokes. He lacks the physical presence but it seems like we don't really need one in the team.

Agreed, Vokes looks sluggish and overweight. Considering he's known for his aerial threat I thought he was awful. He mistimes his jumps, gets bullied and just doesn't look capable of kicking a ball properly. Hal for me is he better option

I cant help think of how O"Neil will approach this game, he doesnt know how to play attacking football, and will rely on a dead ball situation to create chances whilst keeping it tight .I think discipline and cool heads will be massive as Im sure they will intimidate our lads as much as possible, so keeping eleven players on the field will be very important, I just hope the occasion does not affect our lads in the wrong way.

As i just noted in the other thread the Irish are potentially in a fair play situation if they win and ukraine and croatia draw. Croatia are a couple of reds worse than Ireland so Ireland can't afford to get many booked against us. Debatable whether this will inform theor strategy- some fans on their forum suspect that their lack of interest in improving their GD v moldova is a sign that O'Neill is not fully in possession of the facts as to what they need to do so discipline might be the least of his concerns!
