Wow. I'm so disappointed.
While I am grateful that it was (only) a friendly, there should be no excuses.
I sense that we went into that game very possibly (hope I am wrong) with a sense of entitlement and expectation of a comfortable win after wins against the Republic of Ireland and a decent display against Denmark on Friday. As such, we seemed to be lacking in effort, pace and creativity.
People are forgetting that despite their poor form, these sides are not easy to beat. The Scots defeat probably put their backs up and they were eager to prove a point.
$********** (pardon the language) and OTT defensive tactics are the rule. Denmark struggled because of similar tactics on Monday evening.
Without the penalty, it would have ended 0-0, and not too far from being on par with our performances in the WC qualifiers.
However, we're very likely, going to come up against similar sides in pots 3 and 4 for our Euro qualifiers, so we cannot be underestimating them.
Moreover, some of our former regulars are sadly, no longer upto the standard required of the first team.
Not for the first time, I noticed an imbalance of pace during passing between certain players. Giggs seems to have at least cottoned onto this for our competitive fixtures by opting to play younger players instead.
Giggs needs to maximise the potential of the team by playing to each player's individual skills and strengths (which includes not playing Ramsey in defensive midfield), and that concerns me. Perhaps he thought he could get away with doing that against Albania, who knows.
