Looks like Mark Delaney will be leading Villa U23 team out against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool tonight.

Best right back in my time following Wales. Gunter would be no where near the 100 caps, if Mark didn’t have his career cut short to injury.

Agree, he was so unlucky with injuries. The best player to emerge from the Cymru Premier or LoW as it was then?

Delaney's about 13 years older than Gunter, I don't see how he'd have impacted the amount of caps Gunter got that much

Teriffic performance from the Villa kids on Friday night. Perhaps the FAW should be looking at bringing Mark into the Welsh coaching set-up at some point. His last game was for Wales in the 2-1 loss to Czech republic at Teplice in Sept 2006 which i witnessed.Spent the rest of that season trying to sort his knee injury but finally gave up at the start of the following season.
Certainly the best player to come out of the LOW,was nearly 23 when he turned pro which makes his acheivments in the game quite remarkable. Off course we narrowly lost the play off for Euro 2004 so could have played in a tournament as well .
By far the greatest footballing export of the Fishguard and Goodwick area,in fact not many Pembrokeshire players have made it into the national side, the others in my lifetime being Simon Davies and off course Joey.Quality if not quantity!

Has to be the best player to come out of the league to date. And from carmarthen town no less!

Hell of a goal but he's so lucky that keeper was routed to the line. Haha yes, that's exactly what I thought. The last touch before the finish is frankly a disaster, and pretty much any goalkeeper playing today would have easily intercepted it! It's strange watching it when you're used to the current game - I simply expected to see the keeper easily gathering it. The touch before that to split the defence however is awesome.

I used to have a season ticket for Carmarthen Town during the Delaney years (1995-1998). Even though he was right back, he owned the whole side up and down. Never seen a player with such a disparate in quality from the standard he was playing. I was only a young teenager so emailed the best English Premier League clubs at the time saying they should buy him! Had no idea he was still in the game and managing. Glad he appears to be doing well!

Totally agree, just rewatch the Italy game on Clic to see how he gets up and down the pitch like no other. Great athlete when fit

He was way ahead of everyone on the pitch.

Swindon’s assistant manager has been promoted to head coach. Maybe Delaney turned it down?
