Whats going on with the Celtic Cup in february? I havent heard anything about it and time is closing in. They seem to be a bit too relaxed about it as the FAW has done nothing to promote it (as usual), the fixtures havent been set and nobody knows anything about it. Is it still going ahead?

Just been on the other FA's websites and couldnt find anything. One thing I did find though is that the FAW website is ten years behind the others. Even Northern Irelands site craps all over our, even though it has half our population. No big suprise considering the FAW is full of decrepit old fossils.

the tournament is mentioned on the Aviva Stadium website
what's frustrating is that the FA of Ireland have not announced the actual fixtures yet - how are we supposed to book flights and accommodation if we don't know which of the dates we are playing on?

In May 2011, we could be playing in Dublin on the 24th and 28th... Or we could be playing on the 25th and 27th. The second combination would mean a much shorter stay in Dublin.
The other date are 8th & 9th February 2011, but if you're planning a day trip or one night stay it would be useful to know which nights.
In contrast, Six Nations rugby dates are announced at least a year in advance aren't they?

On the FAW site today: www.faw.org.uk/news/1804CARLING TO SPONSOR NEW FOUR NATIONS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT Leading beer brand Carling was today unveiled as the sponsor of the inaugural Carling Nations Cup which will see Wales take on Scotland, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland at the new state of the art Aviva Stadium in Dublin early next year. The Carling Nations Cup, which kicks off on Tuesday February 8 2011, will be the first senior international tournament hosted in Ireland and marks a significant investment by Carling. The tournament will be played in a league format with six matches between the four neighbouring teams, the first two taking place at the Aviva Stadium on February 8 and 9 and the remaining four taking place the week commencing Monday May 23. Carling has been a major sponsor of football for many years, and today’s announcement builds upon its range of other sponsorships including the Carling Cup in England & Wales, the Carling Premiership in Northern Ireland and most recently its sponsorship of the Scottish National team & Scottish Cup. Martyn Cozens, Sales Managing Director of Molson Coors Wales, said, “At Carling, we are as passionate about the beautiful game as the fans are and we’re thrilled to sponsor the inaugural Carling Nations Cup. We believe that football is a great sociable experience that is best shared with mates whether watching the action live at the game, in the pub or at home on the sofa. We’re sure that the Carling Nations Cup will provide fans with plenty of entertainment and excitement and help support the trade in Wales.” Jonathan Ford, Chief Executive, Football Association of Wales, said: “I am delighted to be involved with our neighbours from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland in the Carling Nations Cup for 2011 in Dublin. “I am sure that the matches will have all our respective fans cheering throughout the February and May dates. In addition, I am pleased with the association of Carling as the title sponsors for the tournament. I am sure everyone in Wales will look to the games for some top-class, competitive games against some of our oldest rivals and friends!” Former Welsh international Ian Walsh, who played for clubs including Crystal Palace and Swansea City, was on hand to lend his support, alongside fellow footballing legends Craig Burley of Scotland, Packie Bonner of Ireland and Pat Jennings of Northern Ireland.

What about the football? They seem to be more bothered about sponsorship.

According to the Wales on Sunday, if the tournament is "a success" (I assume this is based on attendances), then Wales will host the 2013 Celtic Cup, with matches split between different international venues.
