Badly need a better finisher than james, his speed gets him there but the rest is sadly lacking, can't fault his effort but still.

Is anyone else left with the feeling Dan James isn't going to be the player we thought he'd be?

Is anyone else left with the feeling Dan James isn't going to be the player we thought he'd be? Could have told you that while he was still at Swansea.

Is anyone else left with the feeling Dan James isn't going to be the player we thought he'd be? It depends what people thought he’d be. To be fair there were numerous people who thought when he left Swansea that he was just raw pace and that he wouldn’t make it at the top level. So it’s not like he was hyped to buggery to start with. In his defence you can say what you like about his missed chances but he never let his head go down and went hiding. He got stuck in and made a nuisance of himself and there was a lot of value we gained from that

Just before Austria scored He had several off games in the Euros too. Going forward I think he'd be better off as an impact sub, he was clearly knackered towards the end and struggled to outpace their defenders.

I’m trying to remember who scored against Czechs home and away. We beat Austria. Give it a break.

Swedes take the lead, more than certain they'll see it out now. As they always seem to do.

One of the best attacking performances I’ve seen in a while, especially on the counter.
Cant believe we could have scored 4/5 goals. Mental.
Thought the ref was trying his best to fuck us over, how no more Austrians got booked I have no idea.

They always seem to ref us differently to the opposition.

His main asset is his pace but otherwise he is basic. He was even struggling with that in the second half. I'm forming the opinion he's just a fast Joe Morrell. A - as Quetzal said, he scored 2 crucial goals in qualifying against a good side that got us 4 points. B - he offers so much more than goal contributions. I would challenge anyone to name a player that presses better than him. That pressing is key in how we defend, in not allowing teams to settle, and often in creating chances. I don't think we would have drawn that game against Belgium, for example, without his pressing. C - he creates most of the chance for himself with his excellent running D - we've just won a massive game, why focus on this?

Have to agree, his energy is key looks after his side of the pitch, is key to us at the moment.

The pressing from the whole frontline was really well co-ordinated and executed in that first 10 minutes. Shame we didn’t get a goal from it given how isolated the Austrian wide defenders ended up becoming.

Thought the ref was trying his best to fuck us over, how no more Austrians got booked I have no idea. I thought the ref did OK. Just Alaba and that guy with the square head who assisted Bale were being sneaky (not sure if swearing is OK on here). Counter attack we looked class, just a shame Dan James couldn't get a goal. He looked like he had no composure, maybe one on one's aren't his thing and he needs the keeper to make his mind up for him.

Rodon is a colossus too. Why is he not getting a look in at Spurs? Probably because he makes errors like going in for a ball where the man is already being marked and leaving an attacker free. He did well to recover but Conte won’t have been impressed watching that, you probably won’t get away with that in the premier league against a top team. Davies was the pic of the defence for me- always seems to read the game so well that he’s in the right place at the right time. Deserved better luck than that block ricocheting over Hennessey

Deserved better luck than that block ricocheting over Hennessey I thought Rodon was the stand out. Davies got caught out for their crossbar chance. I really like Rodon, their giant got nothing out of him. I agree about the goal, awkward one where Hennessey had it covered but no defender will let a ball go past him if its on target.

Can't fault any of the boys tonight. Can't believe anybody giving James shit. His pace alone keeps their defence on its toes even when they have possesion. One ball over the top and he's in. As a cb it's a nightmare having somebody with blistering pace against you. In the past we would have panicked at 2-1 but we dug in. Like some have said on here, it's a blessing that the final isn't next week as Bale looked like he had a tight groin and we were generally knackered. Very emotionally draining game. Let's just breath and enjoy for a few months. Now let's have a look for a decent pair of Jesus sandals!
