A lot of the stats favored Austria but I can’t remember Hennessey having too do much. Italy had 16 corners to N Macedonia 0 so stats never quite tell the whole story.

I think with his build he's got the potential to be a complete defender. Tall, strong, puts himself about. He is inexperienced but he has a habit of just reading that last ditch tackle. Either they are trying and failing with him or someone should take him under their wing and get the best out of him. There aren't many better defenders when it's a back to the wall game, where it's all about throwing your body on the line, last ditch blocks, and clearing countless crosses. But 90% of Spurs' games aren't like that. In most of their games, their three centre backs have loads of possession and are expected to provide a creative force by driving forward, passing through the lines, and playing long diagonals. That simply isn't Rodon's game, which is why even after his heroics last night, I don't see it getting him any closer to Spurs' starting lineup. It's just a different skillset. I'm sure I've seen him drive forward with the ball for Wales sometimes. Might not be good enough though. I can't remember who against but I'm sure in one of his early matches he nearly scored from it.

Yes, he did seem to do it a lot more in his first few caps - the Azerbaijan game in particular stands out. But he hasn't been doing it since and he's looked very shaky on the ball for spurs, whilst I don't think he's ever had those long diagonals in his locker. Even on Thursday, he didn't have that much of the ball, but on the few times he did he didn't do anything progressive and a couple of times he was a little panicky and lacked composure. There were a couple of instances where he received the ball with a small bit of pressure, and he just lumped it clear to no-one and I thought to myself, that's the reason he's not playing for Spurs. If you watch spurs regularly, the likes of Dier, Romero and Davies are so cool under pressure. Dier has actually been very good this season. So I'd like to join in with all the 'how the hell isn't he making their team' narrative, but I think there are valid reasons for it unfortunately. He just needs to move to a mid-table team with a slightly different style of play that look for different attributes in their CBs. I think he would be perfect under Moyes for West Ham, for example.

Thanks 🙏 for this. Watched it again. 2-1 flattered Austria. Seriously. We slaughtered them. I know Iwan Roberts on EJFOF said he’d go with same team again. I’d be tempted to throw Kieffer Moore into the mix.
