Not sure if there's any interest in this, but a number of young Welsh players, most of them U21 internationals for us, have moved to Ireland recently, either permanently or on loan, so thought a thread to keep track of them could be useful.
I realise the quality of the league isn't great but it's fully professional (I believe?), and players regularly move from there to the EFL and to the Scottish Premiership, so if they stand out they could be in for decent moves or earn a place at their parent club.
The players are:
Dundalk: Joe Adams (attacking midfielder) and Nathan Sheppard (GK), both U21 internationals (Adams being a regular), recently moved there from Brentford on permanent deals. Dan Williams (midfield) of Swansea, also an U21 international, is joining them on loan imminently too.
Shelbourne: Lewis Webb (GK) of Swansea is going there on loan. Also an U21 international. Dan Hawkins (forward) - don't know much about him except that he transferred there recently from Finn Harps, and he's formerly of Salford, so not the most exciting of the bunch, but you never know.

I love seeing different countries involved in the Wales set up. Certainly can't hurt bringing all their different experiences into the Wales camps.

I must admit that my immediate thought is why are these players not being loaned out to Welsh Premier rather than Irish clubs?

I must admit that my immediate thought is why are these players not being loaned out to Welsh Premier rather than Irish clubs? Money I'd imagine. The League of Ireland is fully professional so for the players moving there permanently it obviously makes more financial sense than the Cymru Prem. And for the loans, I guess they pay the loanee's wages which is more appealing to the parent club than loaning them to Welsh clubs for free. The standard is obviously a bit better too unfortunately. It'd be nice to see the big 4 send their players on loan to the Cymru Prem more often though.

Need to be clear that summer football runs from Feb to November so forget ideas of all games played in glorious sunshine. Also clubs will lose out on the bumper Xmas derby gates as they did this year due to Covid. So not all pluses. The big plus is that teams will be match fit for Europe which should improve results and coefficient. Not much in it for majority of teams however who will also lose players and fans to cricket during the summer.

The Boxing Day games have more to do with being derbies than when they're played. I've always said that if football was invented now there;d be no way in hell you'd start the season just as the weather is starting to deteriorate and days get shorter, and end it just as it starts to get nicer again.

Nathan Sheppard probably the youngest goalie we have playing regularly at a decent level?
Maybe worth a call up as third choice or fourth choice replacing King?

Not much in it for majority of teams however who will also lose players and fans to cricket during the summer. It's a very late reply but I doubt many fans would be lost to Cricket. Only Glamorgan are well supported and their big games tend to be at times that wouldn't regularly clash with football. A summer league in Wales seems a good idea to me. Could help our teams in Europe and imagine there'd be potential to pick up fans of the exile clubs. I'm a Cardiff fan and if I'm not going to a home or an away game during the season I consider that a weekend off from football. In the summer I'd welcome the opportunity for trips to watch competitive football where I'm not too bothered about the result and would fancy taking in a few games in the sunshine. Watching a game in good weather probably more attractive to casual local fans too. What are the thoughts of fans who support Welsh Premier teams?
