19 year old centre half been on the bench for the past few games for WBA, made his debut against Brighton in the FA cup coming on in the 67’ and played till 120’. Solid performance too, looks like he could break through real soon with West Brom being far from up to standards recently.

Has joined Bolton on a seasons loan with an option to buy. Interesting as Bolton's first choice left sided CB is out for the season, so could be a big opportunity. Will be up against Iredale, who's not that good actually. Would also provide cover at LB/LWB especially if, as constantly speculated, Declan is moved on Let's hope he gets more game time than Owen Beck !

Winning goal for Zac tonight from a free kick, think that's his first competitive senior goal, Playing LWB. Declan idling away the last knockings of a career on the bench.

Zac's just scored an absolutely belter at Carlisle from a peach of a ball from Sheehan
(+ an assist just now as well !)

Another goal for young Zac today, from an assist by Collins on his debut. Zac's maturing nicely and Collins looked lively.

One for the next Nations League campaign perhaps?

One for the next Nations League campaign perhaps? Not for me at this point. Seems like he's only started to establish himself in the first team in the last handful of games. Lots of other options ahead of him at the moment - Beck's obviously the next one to come through and plays in the same position.

Granted Beck's had more match experience now after playing in Scotland, but I get a vibe from this kid that I never got from Owen. It's always difficult with a loan move as you don't know the parent team's long term plan or the players' priorities but I get the feel that Zac is more driven and committed to succeeding in his time here. Beck may have more of a skill set, and you could see that in his brief spell here, but the desire wasn't there like it was with his mate Connor Bradley. I still think Beck has a lot to prove, he was not at all convincing at L1 level. I remain to be convinced being lauded in the SPL, outside the big 2, is a legitimate reason for excitement. I think of this as the Doidge/Levitt/Partridge conundrum.

I think of this as the Doidge/Levitt/Partridge conundrum. Beck has been highly rated at Liverpool for the last couple of years, done well for them in his cup and preasoon appearances, and had a highly impressive loan spell at Dundee. I don't get your comment about how it's less noteworthy because it's not with one of the big two - it's in the same league, so if anything it's more impressive because he's playing alongside lower calibre players. He's been the standout player for our u21s more often than not, whilst Ashworth has often struggled. I know Beck's stint at Bolton wasn't a success, which is understandably colouring your view, but I'll raise your Doidge/Levitt/Partridge conundrum with a Dan James/Harry Wilson conundrum. He would be far from the first player to struggle in his initial season / loans in senior football before going on to play at a top level

Connor Roberts had an equally poor period at Middlesbrough. These players went back to their parent clubs better players and eventually made the breakthrough, or got decent moves. I don't deny Beck is a talented player. It's just a feeling I get that with Ashworth, just like Connor Bradley, that they have/had the drive to succeed at this level. I didn't get that feeling with Beck. It's more a mental thing then pure talent, we've had plenty of very talented footballers who just haven't the mental fortitude and endeavor to make the best of their potential. Hope to be wrong about Owen Beck, I'ts just my feeling here.

All I'd say is that's far from the impression I've had any time I've heard him talking in interviews. He seems very humble and driven to me
