May as well offer him a senior call-up. Looks to be a player. I’ve faith in our system that we’d do everything in our power to persuade him. If he’s not interested then fair enough. Since switching to England he's been called up to 3 seperate camps as far as I can tell. So definitely not a case of just testing them out once and returning as many others have done I'd say he probably feels more at home in the English set up, so wouldn't expect him to switch to us any time soon. See what the future holds

When they’re born in England and they choose to represent England I have no problems. It’s the Kevin Sheedy’s(Builth Wells) of this world that destroy me.

More a reflection on the old FAW,RoI used to name their squads early to force a decision by dual qualified players his dad called and asked if he was in the Wales squad and was told to wait and see.Dad Irish btw!

I don't know much about rugby but I feel sure I read somewhere that one of the England team that won the rugby world cup was born in Wales, Dewi Morris??

See what the future holds Yeah I appreciate that. It wouldn’t hurt to try to persuade him (again) in the coming month. Although I’m sure the FAW will try to do that. Like with JJ, starting Championship matches as a teenager certainly won’t go unnoticed!

Why do we talk about him if he has chosen England? Like staring at a girl in class who is going out with someone else. Let’s focus on those who want to play for Wales.

I'd second that
I have zero interest in anyone that shows zero interest in Wales. Its irrelevant

I did not realise Ash Phillips had played one representative game for an age grade Wales team and a win vs. England at that!:
On 9 April 2021, Phillips made his debut for Wales U16 coming off the bench in a 3-2 win against England U16.[10]
On 1 October 2021, Phillips was called up to the England U17 squad.[11]
On 16 September 2022, Phillips along with Rovers teammate Adam Wharton where called up to the England U19 squad,[12] making his debut in a 2-0 win against Montenegro U19.[13]

Think he's pretty clearly committed to England unfortunately. Given the choice, it's fairly obvious he'll opt for them, as he has with their youth sides. He's already Championship quality at 18, so in all likelihood will be a decent prem player at minimum. Given that, I think he'll hang on to the hope of an England cap for a while. Only way I can see him ever 'settling' for us is if he does a Da Silva, where he hasn't kicked on enough and by 23/24 knows he won't be able to make it.

Yeah Da Silva came to mind when reading these posts. I think there's promise that he could be a top player, and if that is the case there's no chance he represents us. Best case scenario is that he becomes a decent Premier League player but isn't good enough for England and considers other options, but until he becomes a regular top flight player I don't think we're really missing out on much

He never became a regular for Blackburn Rovers did he or even play a few matches in the first team?
I think when he was 17 there was a big buzz but while he got the Spurs move that was certainly not down to first team performances.
He has loads of U19 England caps but that means little. He is still young at 19 but he does not seem to have the trajectory of someone destined to be a regular fixture for England? We will see in the next 2 years. I saw him play for England U19s against Wales, who had the likes of Koumas and Crew (we drew 1-1) and he did not particularly impress.
So so far it would be reasonable to assume he will not make 4 caps for England in the next few years unless his form accelerates in the next 2 years but he could by contrast be a very significant player for us if he were to switch in the future. For all we know he may even think not very much of Wales - he only picked up 1 cap for us at U16 level before switching!

IF he is eligible, then get him, he's highly thought of and is still a kid, hopefully he can be persuaded.

However, he switched to England when they came calling. Clearly feels more English than Welsh. If he's top, he'll probably just play for them. If his career doesn't progress like that and he reaches his mid-twenties with no real prospect of playing them then we could get him, just like Jay Dasilva

I don't know if he could reach the right level required for England in the next 3/4 years, so yes that's when we might be able to persuade him that his future will be with us, and he will be a much more experienced player by then too.

Dragon Soccer has him down as eligible. It's not disputed as far as I can tell, especially given he has represented us - all the checks would have been completed then

I’m sure it was in a win or draw versus England. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out.
