I think roughly half the tickets in the bottom tier have been put on sale. So 14k on sale, of which about 10/11k sold is my rough estimate. So we're looking at about 12 thousand. I think that's a really poor effort, particularly after their heroics, and even considering it's a last-minute friendly and all the practical difficulties on a Tuesday night. We had the same pre-euros and a few other friendlies. It just shows that watching Wales play still isn't enough of a draw in itself to go beyond the 10-15 thousand mark. It needs to be a big occasion or against glamorous opponents, or to be less challenging logistically to attract a decent crowd. By comparison, Scotland just got around 40 thousand attending their last minute friendly against Poland. For all the talk about the special bond between the team and fans, let's be honest the Red Wall isn't that great really. Hopefully it won't be too demoralising for the players The question is would it be more for a nations league game where there are at least points at stake? At the end of the day it literally is a pointless match at a time when a lot of people simply don’t have the money because of rising costs and stagnant wages all across the board. Plus you don’t need to be Nostradamus to confidently predict a team shorn of it’s household names. Yes the players do deserve better, but right now there is a clear world of difference in the world they inhabit to the one the average fan does and I hope that isn’t lost on them when they see the empty seats.

For all the talk about the special bond between the team and fans, let's be honest the Red Wall isn't that great really. Hopefully it won't be too demoralising for the players I think 12k is a bit optimistic. I wouldn't say half of the bottom tier has sold, a lot of it hasn't been put on sale and plenty of availability other than in the centres of 3 stands, plus then there's level 4 of the Granstand where most haven't been made available. I would be surprised if it is over 10k and expect 8k ish. Fair play to the Scots it was a decent turn out, but it was their only home game of this window and they only planned on having one home match anyway. Plus the SFA were giving £10 per ticket to the Ukraine appeal, something the FAW aren't. This was a last minute game for us yes, but we just had to pay for two expensive games not too long ago and times are hard (gas bill for my household came today and doubled in price). I am going but can understand why people wouldn't want to go again and pay a bit over the odds to see an effectively Wales B game. There will always be challenges and valid reasons for not going, particularly for people travelling from afar on a Tuesday night and faced with a choice of paying hundreds for a hotel or making an 8-hour round trip. I completely get all of that. And times are hard too, sure. But this is hardly a new phenomenon. I would like to think there would be sufficient demand just within the M4 corridor to at least make it respectable. If we had a decent support we would have enough numbers to make it respectable even with these barriers ruling out 70-80% of the fanbase, but we don't have a good support - at least not in terms of the volume of dedicated fans. I wouldn't mind so much, but I'm just concerned that this type of thing affects that relationship between the team and the fans and shines a spotlight on the reality of the situation - that the dedicated Welsh fanbase is tiny and doesn't come close to what the players like to think it is.

Without sounding too pompous (hopefully), I personally look forward to every international and never consider one a pointless match. There are always things to look forward to. I loved the game against Panama where I got to see Ampadu, Brooks and Woodburn for the first time. I'm really intrigued to see how we line up, whether we test new ideas, and a chance to see promising youngsters. Add to that this game marks Hennessey's 100th cap and there is a sense of occasion to it. It's easy to turn up in numbers to a game like last Thursday's, it's these type of games that show how good our fanbase truly is. At risk of sounding like a dick, I just don't buy the argument around the affordability of the game. Not because lots of people aren't struggling at the moment (I'm certainly not well off), but just because it's such an easy argument to make, it's one that is always made and when you look at comparable countries such as Scotland, it just doesn't hold water. As I say, there will always be a range of very valid reasons that hold proper fans back - whether it's the affordability, logistics or whatever. But if we had a decent fanbase, there would be enough there for it not to be embarrassing even with all of those factors accounted for. I just think that a big chunk of people simply don't fancy it, and that's the disappointing thing.

Will enjoy tomorrow and it will be great to see some of the fringe players in action and celebrate Hennessey’s 100th cap. On the one hand, it obviously isn’t a major game and will have have a ‘after the Lord Mayors show’ feel about it but on the other hand, I’ve booked the time off work and a hotel so an afternoon on the beer and a bit of footy is not a bad way to spend the day. Saying that,Cardiff is only a one and a half hour journey for me from over the bridge so I do understand that it wouldn’t be as easy for the ones from North Wales etc Either way, looking forward to a day in Cardiff tomorrow. COME ON WALES

This match is being promoted as a “benefit” match for Ukraine. When I went to get my 3 x £25 tickets today, I ended up paying £75 for the tickets, £8 in “booking fees” and was able to make a maximum donation of £10 for Ukrane. So out of a total group outlay of £93, we donated a massive £3.33 each, hardly generous.
A 10000 crowd generates £0.25million in gate receiots, how much does it rwally cost to put this extra game on?
Thursday nights bucket collection raised £3009, less than 10p per person who attended
These arw really embarrasing numvers Cymru

Thursday nights bucket collection raised £3009, less than 10p per person who attended Bucket collections in this day and age are outdated, sorry to say. Since covid I never use cash anymore, and the stadium doesn't take it so most people there aren't going to have any physical money on them, let alone odd change.

It's an extra game now, a friendly on a week night, cash is tight for some people. I don't understand why the Ukrainian money didn't come out of say half the ticket cost. I don't have much faith there will be a lot there tomorrow, and they could have sold a lot more tickets if they marketed in a different way.

I think it's too much, too soon, in the same place. A friendly in CCS a week after a crucial match, with massive games coming up. I'll admit I've not been to a Wales match for a few years now, mostly because I know tickets are impossible so I've accepted going to the pub in North Wales as my routine.
But... if this was in Wrexham I would have left work early to get there. If it was in Swansea, maybe the local fan base there would have jumped at the chance to see one when they might not be able to travel to Cardiff.
I understand we were already scheduled to use CCS and its our home ground, but this game in Wrexham would have been a huge attraction.

Yeah I wish I could be there but I can't justify a 6-7 hour round trip and at least 1 day off work for a friendly game. Sounds like on this occasion CCS was already arranged to be used but surprised we haven't used Wrexham again since that Trinidad game in 2019.

We have NEVER had a large fan base. Yes we could and have filled the CCS and Millennium for big games but it’s only over a short period of time.
It’s only really since 2016 we have taken more than 500 regularly to away games. I can still remember being in the away end and able to actually count our away fans.

I have some sympathy with the FAW given the uncertainty around Ukraine etc. Obviously the CCS was booked ready for the final. I think its understandable people won't turn out in big numbers for a Tuesday night friendly at 30 quid a ticket. If they'd made it 15/20 quid I think they'd have sold more.
I'm going but I can afford it comfortably and I live 15 minutes walk from the ground. If I was living away from Cardiff, I almost certainly wouldn't have bothered having been here on Thursday.

Completely agree, this was never likely to draw a big crowd for the various reasons already discussed. A perfect opportunity to take a game to Wrexham or Swansea (or even Llanelli) where the local fanbase would have most likely appreciated the chance to see Wales play without the expense of travelling to Cardiff.

The logistics of getting this game on anywhere that wasn't the CCS would have been too much, I htink that's clear. Should we move more friendlies around in future? Absolutely!
I want to see more moved to Wrecsam in terms of friendlies to make it easier for the northern fans to attend, as they are so loyal

Shaun Harvey has informed supporters that a 5500 seater stand will be built in place of the old Kop, which will bring the overall capacity over 16,000. That's plenty big enough for a bigger name friendly where we can field some first team players.

I don't think we will host any international matches up here until the new Kop is built anyway, which will be in the 2023/24 season at the very earliest. Hopefully we can host our 2024 Euros send off up here!

I don't think that's greedy, but I also don't think the FAW should get away from the winning formula in Cardiff for qualification games I'd be for; - Moving friendlies that have significance, e.g players winning 100 caps. I know that was impossible this time but would have been very fitting for Wayne to have his first and 100th caps in Cae Ras - As you've suggested, moving send off friendlies before tournaments there - Making a point of hosting a high profile team for a friendly there. Invite a Brazil/Argentina etc.. for a friendly and sell out the capacity - which would be decent when it's extended as you say I don't see why we can't do more dovetailing between Cardiff & Wrecsam

Add onto that the ridiculous "booking fees" and you're looking at a sizeable outlay before considering travel, food, drink etc. The ticket price is absolute madness when placed into context. It's well known Cardiff City charge a nominal fee to host Wales games and its not like £25 was the norm for friendly ticket prices before tonight. As jbt said, bucket collections are outdated. Carrying cash is very much going out of fashion and some places don't even take it anymore after the pandemic I'm not usually one to complain about footballers' wages, but the squad has more than a couple of wealthy men in there, asking fans to "dig deep" when the superstar's on £600k a week was more than a little cheeky

Levitt would have started over Vaulks no doubt Ffs - why do we have to watch Gunter instead of Neco? No disrespect but being a nice guy should not get you caps when you are 33, get into a division 2 squad and play awfully defensive football. He has nothing to offer from a footballing perspective and I am so pissed off when people look at the record books Gunter will be our record caps holder and not Bale! So mediocre! When your time is up your time should be up! The more games Neco plays the better. I want to be excited and watch attacking talent! PS - I know I am harsh but seriously - why?

Can't even get a game for MK Dons in League 1 now. He looked like he fit right in when Giggs played him alongside Allen, now he's completely flopped. I was hoping he'd be more than someone who'd just fade into obscurity after a few caps, especially as we need players to come through in that area.
