According to dragon soccer on Twitter, Connolly has Welsh parentage
Cardiff City centre back, on loan at Bristol Rovers. Captained Cardiff's all conquering u23 side before going on loan in January

Bit late to this but James has joined Morecambe in league 2 on loan for the season. Went straight into the starting lineup against Salford and kept a clean sheet. I didn't watch the game but from what I hear he had a very good game.

I didn't watch the game but from what I hear he had a very good game. My recollection of Connolly was that he looked pretty decent last season, am really surprised he's dropped down a division, albeit still a youngster needing experience in the Pro game. Maybe Rover's fans can clarify but I thought he had become pretty established at Bristol and was featuring regularly. Morecambe might be my go to L2 side on a late Saturday afternoon with Eli King there too. |

The response I got from a few Bristol rovers fans was that they believed they’d signed too many defenders and so Connolly wasn’t guaranteed game time. Our centre back partnership was looking pretty strong already and seems like he may have forced himself into the team after just 1 game so very positive start. King has been excellent too. |
