As reported by the brilliant Dragon Soccer, 18 year old Eddie Beach Goalkeeper as signed for Chelsea from Southampton. Sounds promising

I guess the hope with Chelsea is that they impress while they are out on loan and build their career from there. Maybe will take a few years for him to get a loan at a decent level?

I think for an 18 year old keeper there’s no difference between Southampton or Chelsea. He’s not getting in any Prem first 11 anytime soon.

Chelsea had a short period of blooding youngsters under Frank Lampard, it's the one good thing he did when he was there, it's over, it's not happening again any time soon, maybe for as long as it took before Lampard, which was last century.

If my memory serves me correctly didn't we have our "next big thing" goalkeeper at Chelsea about two decades ago who disappeared into oblivion.
Was he Rhys something, I can't recall, my memory is shot these days but I am banking on someone like @bale-droed will remember his name.
Edit. It came to me Rhys Taylor at Chelsea seven years, never got a game!!

I don’t think he was Welsh because a young goalkeeper at Chelsea by the name of Rhys was on loan at Bristol Rovers in the 2000s and I assumed going by his first name he was a young Welsh prospect but it turned out that he was actually English. Never really made it in the end anyway

Not the same chap I don't think as this one played for all the Wales age groups up to 21's.

Ooooh okay, I was thinking that it would be too much of a coincidence that there would be two young Rhys’s playing in goal at Chelsea around that era but seems like there was!

Rhys Taylor was born in Wales to Welsh parents And grandparents and played our youth grades. I think the English thing is because after the education rule changes he become eligible for England as he’d spent most of his in Surrey and there was actual concerns he’d switch allegiances

Another one we were worried about and really needn’t have been!

Yes that must be the one insertname was thinking of, both a Rhys and both at Chelsea. Coincidentally name wise again obviously we had Darren Ward in goal during the 2000's and now we have Danny Ward!

Travelling with Chelsea's first team to Abu Dhabi training camp.
Think we may as well get him involved as third choice. Despite their clangers Ward and Hennessey still have good international and domestic pedigree and there's a lot to learn from them both.

On the bench for Chelsea tonight, not sure if that means he's currently their no.2. Hopefully he'll get a loan spell at a decent level within the next year or two. I think he was with a club a level below the conference last year, and seemed to do well.

I think he was with a club a level below the conference last year, and seemed to do well. I'm sparing any judgement on the lad as he wasn't the only keeper on Chelsea's bench last night - Lucas Bergstrom, 20 years old, full Finnish international, spent last term on loan with Peterborough in League One and 5 inches taller than our Eddie.

While has next to no chance of making it at Chelsea just due to the nature of the club, they clearly rate him putting him on the bench in a PL game at 19 years old. He was training with the firsts during preseason and is listed as a first team player on their website too. Hopefully they send him out on loan to a decent level before the end of the window.
He's definitely our brightest GK prospect, and honestly we're so thin in the position I wouldn't be against fast tracking him up to the seniors for the friendly next month to have a look at him. Much more useful long term than calling up Tom King or Adam Davies.

Chelsea just signed a new number 2 from Serbia. Would love to see Beach get a loam - we're desperate for GKs!

Yeah I heard that after commenting, doh. Probably a fair bit away from any first team minutes than I hoped. Think they've also just brought in another keeper on loan to provide competition

Is he comfortable with his feet? I'd really like to see Page do something drastic and fast-track a new GK in (at least in a friendly) on the basis that they're good with their feet. The more I think about, the more I feel that Ward's limited footballing ability is undermining our whole system and is perhaps THE biggest issue.
Page should do a Johan Cruyff and just go for the best footballing GK we have, just to see if it changes the way we play!

Well, he’s just talked his way into my starting XI anyway! In a friendly against a weaker team, for certain. Not necessarily to give him a chance personally (though that would good too), but just to see if a different style of GK has an impact on the way we play.

Love his confidence, basically saying that he's our number one for the next ten years or so!

Love his confidence, basically saying that he's our number one for the next ten years or so! Nothing like the confidence of youth! I remember Iwan Morgan pre-Hungary saying they were going to "take over" Certainly different to the messaging from the senior squad
