Out of interest what travel insurance have people booked? I'm going to make sure I have a decent one which includes Covid cancellation cover incase I test positive before flying out to Doha. Any recommendations?

It’s actually really stressful now. Going from certainly going to the World Cup to hopefully (if my test come back negative I’m not going). There are so many hurdles & hoops that you need to go through. The headache of organising flights & accommodation through fifa portal now seems like the easy bit. To get into the country everyone needs:
Hayya card app - visa that would come automatically if you have a Hayya - negative Covid test - Etheraz app with green code to show you don’t have Covid. This can only happen once you’ve had you negative test result uploaded to the app then they need to approve it. Bearing in mind everyone will have the result on the day of the flight or day before earliest. - ticket app (to get into the game)
For fans not tech savvy I’m not sure how they will cope. On top of this there looks certain to be mobile phone problems on Qatar with the recommending switching to a local SIM card!
Surely the FAW & every other FA need to come together to say that this is unacceptable & thousands of ticketed fans worldwide will end up missing out on watching the world cup because of the bureaucratic shit show

Any recommendations? Got to start looking at this and to be honest it's not going to be pretty. Having had a Melanoma this year and been diagnosed with a rare Neurological condition Myasthenia Gravis I suspect it could be the dearest part of the trip. But health allowing I will be there. I just might need an extra bag for the medication I'm on. The covid cover wonky sheep arranged for Azerbaijan was about £ 12 from memory.

Some info for those who are shuttling in on match days from the UAE based on my experienced last year
I was in Abu Dhabi last Sept just after the UAE had opened up to tourists after the second Covid outbreak.
We had to have tests 4 times whilst were there. They came to our hotel and tested us for £13 per visit. I’ve recently researched and its now around £20 now per test
We are basing ourselves in Abu Dhabi for the WC as the quality of All Inclusive Hotels are better there than Dubai and yes it seems we’ll need to test each time we fly to Qatar but it’s not bank breaking to test out there and theyll come to our hotel.
I’m sure there will be the same in Dubai.
The Ehteraz app seems to be a a potch but they had and still have similar in Abu Dhabi called Al Hosn and that didn’t work whilst we were there but everywhere we went they accepted our UK Covid Vaccination app and we took hard copies too
I hope this helps

I'm in Australia so if I take hard copies of my vaccination will they be enough? The app they recommend didn't work ATM. Or will you need to test and take the results anyway?

You'll need to the PCR or RAT before you travel. Once you get there they say everyone has to use the ehteraz app on their phones which is effectively a contact tracing system and a way of showing your 'green' status to enter venues. I've seen lots of reports that it's pretty flaky so would take copies of your vaccination status aswell. Sounds like it also drains the battery on your phone fairly quickly as it's constantly using the GPS and Bluetooth. Buy a powerbank!

It sounds hooeful now that the etheraz app will not be needed. All mention of it has been dropped from the latest gov .UK update on Qatar world cup entry requirements and I believe the Welsh fans embassy are awaiting confirmation on this

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations of places to test in Cardiff and also in the Denbighshire area? You can book in with Lloyds pharmacy. PCR is £39 and Lateral Flow is £29.99. lloydspharmacy.com/pages/covid-test-for-travel

Realistically it would have to be a same day pcr service. Also if booking a RAT test check the pharmacy actually has any tests. I booked through Lloyd's online earlier this year but when I called to query something they said they had stopped offering this service, luckily I could go to another Lloyd's pharmacy but if I had left it too late I would have been screwed.

I have booked a PCR test with Randox Health the day before my flight as i dont want the stress on the morning of my flight. £80 but results turned around in 1-3 hours. Highly reputable company, used them before when I travelled during stricter covid times. They have centres in a lot of locations.
I also checked with them - if rules change and appointment is no longer needed then you can cancel for a full refund too.

Fan embassy wales just shared a link on Twitter. Looks like the need for a test to get into a Qatar to be scrapped from 1st November… Seen a few official Qatar accounts tweet the same thing. Hopefully great news!
