Shows how dire the goalkeeper situation is when we’re calling up a ROI reject. Cant help but feel we should be investing time in a youth player instead.

ROI have excellent GK options. Beach unfortunetly injured and didn’t get a look in at Crawley beforehand. Bar Owen Evans, we literally have no other viable options. Harrington playing very well for Fleetwood, deserves a chance to impress in camp.

Quite impressive stats on Fotmob. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

If nobody else is starting or impressing by March, I'd honestly be close to calling up Lewys Benjamin I think. Darlow and Ward are gonna get all the minutes anyway. Benjamin has only just turned 18 but he's the starter for Wolves U21s and started Wales U21's last game. Hasn't been fantastic, but is very highly rated, not just by Wolves fans. He might never amount to anything but neither might Harrington, the point is we're desperate.
Besides, we call up Tom King who Wolves fans think is genuinely conference level.

Lewys is currently in the Wales U19 age group
His time will come if he keeps progressing

Interesting that he wasn’t named in the original squad but added two days later.
Was there a delay in the paperwork? or has one of the theee keepers got a knock?

If he's still debating between us and Ireland this seems like a good chance to give him an experience of a Wales camp. We do this a lot at the youth team levels but could be the first time I've seen it for the first team. Would giving him 1 cap tie him down to us due to his age?

On the face of it calling up a League To keeper isn't earth shattering. But our GK situation is so dire that I actually feel this can be a very positive addition
Unlike our recent GK acquisition this is one with time on his side. 24 years old and getting plenty of game time in the top 4 tiers
We've all wanted to see a younger keeper come in for a while. The likes of Tom King and Adam Davies have long felt like space fillers that are blocking the path of a younger keeper. If Harrington is happy being 3rd choice for now with a view to becoming the number 1 when Darlow & Ward retire then this could be a masterstroke, providing that Harrington continues to play and develop

He must be very agile BUT one stat that kills my optimism is that he is just 6ft
No disrespect but that is kind of short for a goalkeeper in the modern era, albeit England's Pickford is just 6ft 1in
Hennessey is apparently 6ft 6in, while Darlow and Ward are both 6ft 3in
If he is an incredible goalkeeper then great (but he would be playing at a higher level?) but otherwise a extra 2-3 inches makes a significant difference in top level football one assumes

They're virtually retired now? At the very least it's hard to see a better 3rd choice at the moment. As regards his height, maybe he has other attributes? That's the point, see how shows up in training. His old man was a decent keeper and then coach so hopefully he's got into good habits from a young age. As for whether he's choosing between Ireland and us, I'm sure he'd choose Ireland but his prospects there don't seem great. (Kelleher is 25). He has a strong Welsh connection though so if he's up for it and he improves our squad and possibly team, then croeso butty bach.

www.irishexaminer.com/sport/soccer/arid-41514575.htmlJohn O'Shea says what you'd expect. Article reels off 3 other keepers with Prem clubs so you can see why we'd be of interest! Interesting that Owain Fon Williams is his coach at Fleetwood. Probably been emphasising the clarity of route to become Wales' keeper!

I'm not personally for tying players down for the sake of it. But given he's been playing regularly I wouldn't be surprised to see him feature against Iceland or something

Remember when we thought Owain was making up the numbers and coming along just to bring his guitar and easel, and to contribute to the together stronger bon viveur ! We would have been horrified to think he might be called up to the nets then. How far had we sunk if that happened. He'd likely be our first choice keeper these days.

There are 3 good keepers Ireland can pick from who are early/mid 20's so unless things change dramatically there he isnt going to be involved

Well its that selfishness isn't it? We don't want to lose him in case he is the 5% exception and turns out to be really good in 3 years time!
Hopefully he sees through any flattery or empty promises he receives!

At the end of the day if you're getting called up there's a chance you can play.
If he felt that strongly about Ireland he wouldn't have accepted a call up for Wales.
Cap tie him against Iceland is what I'd be doing.

Playing him against Iceland would feel risky if top spot is on the line

Only if that possibility is off the table could we afford to experiment.
