Bale out - to add to ramsay, collison, bellamy, joe allen - Tottenham say he has to have some treatment to a knee injury. How the odds are stacked against a small country like wales.

Looking at the Croatia squad this is gonna be tough me thinks...
Squad list:
Goalkeepers: Vedran Runje (RC Lens), Danijel Subašiæ (Hajduk Split), Stipe Pletikosa (Spartak Moskow)
Defenders: Josip Šimuniæ (Hoffenheim), Hrvoje Èale (Trabzonspor), Dario Kneževiæ (Livorno), Jurica Buljat (Hajduk), Ivan Striniæ (Hajduk).
Midfielders: Darijo Srna (Shakhtar Donetsk), Ognjen Vukojeviæ (Dynamo Kiev), Nikola Pokrivaè (Monaco), Tomislav Dujmoviæ (Lokomotiv), Danijel Pranjiæ (Bayern Munich), Luka Modriæ (Tottenham), Drago Gabriæ (Trabzonspor)
Forwards: Ivica Oliæ (Bayern Munich), Mladen Petriæ (Hamburg), Mario Mandžukiæ (Dinamo Zagreb), Eduardo Da Silva (Arsenal), Nikica Jelaviæ (Rapid), Mate Biliæ (Sporting Gijon).
They are ranked 9th in the world but were way of the pace getting to the WC and finished 3rd behind Ukraine. Just had a look at their results and they dont lose many but if we play attcking football like against Scotland we might suprise them

Now Bale is out would a recall for Gareth Roberts be worth it for some experience and he's on form at a decent level. Also lets not see Crofts and hopefully the return of Stock and maybe Gavin Williams if injuries kick in ?

Disappointing that Bale's out, I reckon that probably blows our chance of a result. As long as they're all fit for the competitive qualifiers though, that's the main thing. Plus, better to rest them than to risk them aggravating a current injury.

Bellamy is in the squad for this game. He's delaying his trip to Sierra Leonne.
Oh, and Berbatov has quit international football according to the BBC website.

Bit of a dearth of midfielders there - we may have to rely on Crofts. I'd go with trendy's team, but to be honest it more or less picks itself. Might go for Earnie up front.

gabbs and cotterill out.
i think there's a chance this could be the end of gabbidon: west ham will try and release him in the summer, and depending on this injury, he may not be able to get a club. he might choose to retire with a nice payoff rather than scrabble about the lower leagues on a grand a week. sad, and i hope it doesnt come to that.
outside bet of dave jones giving him a chance at Cardiff?

Davies and Collins join the drop outs. Lost count of how many players not available.
What does this all mean? When Bonkers Bells said he was in, I thought that was a real positive statement about the upcoming campaign - that Bellamy was going to give it a full shot. But now with practically a 1st 11 dropping out, some with slightly dubious excuses, I'm wondering what this says about the commitment to Tosh ahead of the qualifiers.
Or am I being too negative - was it just a ridiculously badly timed date to hold a friendly that would inevitably mean a bunch of players not making it?

in my opinion ,friendlies are and never will be taken serious enough by our lads. we must show that were united and be available ,they may seem meaningless to the players after a hard season, but were never going to get anywhere without preparation, and on the brink of a new campaign they must show that their willing and that they mean business. there s too much complacency and its about time they showed wales how serious they take it.

You have to wonder with the "commitment" of some of our players and the easy Anglo route through in-migration of the English just how much longer Wales will have an independant international football team.

I think the Anglos actually qualify because of the out-migration of their Welsh ancestors, surely? And Wales's footballing future independence will be influenced more by African and Caribbean countries rather than England

With the number of players unavailable for this game I'm not sure how useful this end-of-season friendly will be, to have a game on 23 May, a few weeks after the end of the club season for most players, is worrying.
Hope we don't get anymore drop-outs, otherwise Tosh is playing holding midfield! Croatia away is going to be very difficult...
And anyone else think it's a bit sad that none of the 32 World Cup teams wanted to play Wales before the tournament??

Not sure that even in our history of depleted squads that we've seen as threadbare a turnout as we're gonna get in Croatia on Sun.
I mean, it's embarassing for Tosh surely? Is there anyone - Tosh included - who actually wants this game to go ahead?

Exactly, no one wants this game, it's weeks after the end of season for most players, other players have dropped out with 'injuries' or 'personal reasons', I can't see how this game will help prepare us for Montenegro away in September or Bulgaria next year!
But Tosh is always right of course, and an opportunity for the likes of Crofts to add to their cap tally, as well as new caps for Neil Taylor, Ribeiro, Bradley and new boy Robson-Kanu.
Can't believe Bellamy hasn't pulled out yet!!

They've all gone on their holidays!
Bet Tosh wishes he never arranged this fixture now.

doesn't look too clever.
still, at least bellamy's withdrawl was on the advice of our doctors - and not some dubious bunkoff.

There really is no point whatsoever in this fixture. Look at our friendly games in May and June:
Estonia (h) Holland (a) Iceland (a) NZ (h) Trinidad (a) Canada (h) Norway (a) USA (a) Germany (h)
Unless they are followed by a late season qualifier (NZ preceded Czech Rep at home; Estonia preceded Azerbaijan away) the withdrawals are horrendous and render the game pointless, and caps worthless

I feel sorry for Tosh, when is he going to get a full team with no injuries or other commitment. Ashley Williams is now the captain for Sunday now then.

Although I agree with Gunter, I'm prepared to cut Davies some slack - his season started 7 weeks shy of a year ago, he's had injury problems and to get himself up for one more game after losing that final must be difficult

i think that was gunter's point though: when it comes to Wales, it should never be a question of motivation.

Top marks to Gunter for being virtually our only senior player to make the trip. Lads like Davies and Collins are not setting a good example for the youngsters.

that wasn't great.
i did think that the overall feeling of the pundits on s4c was way over the top though.

Under the circumstances I'll take 2-0 away to a hostile crowd, good experience for the youngsters, but a totally useless match in terms of the euro campaign.
