Just seen highlights of Spurs v Benfica last night. Bale looked impressive. Cracking cross for Crouch to score with a header(Ruled out for offside), and then after a great run, Bale scored the only goal in a 1-0 win. Do we play him left mid or left back?

We clone him, and play him everywhere (except in goal).

well, he's 6' 2" and has great agility, so I reckon he'd be pretty good in goal too! Left wing for me- Gunter or Ricketts can do a good job at left back. We need our most potent attacking weapons further up the field and Bale is certanly one of them.

After seeing the way he played against United there is surely no way he is a defender.
This is great news as last season there was the worry of if he just hit a purple patch that he would struggle to replicate. The fact he has started pre-season where he ended the last with a break in between shows that this lad truly does have the ability to be a great. Has to be played on the wing. Could even be played as a wing forward given his dribbling ability.

I think this is set to be his best season yet, he's also been tipped by Giggs to become the most capped player for Wales eventually.

Could have been, I think Giggs tipped him to be the next Giggs now that I think about it.

It's hard to believe that Wales could have two of the best midfielders in the world in their team at the same time soon, supplemented by a very good and improved squad.

A bit of perspective please lads. We're acting like desperate tarts at 2 am. Well thats one way of putting it! I agree about the 17 year old, long way to go yet. But I dont think we can get excited enough about Bale. Last night he put amazing ball after amazing ball into the Swiss area. Thats world class consistency. So he missed a sitter? Hes not there to score goals.....yet he still has managed to develop a cracking shot to boot. That lad, if he carries on, will end up one of the worlds best players. Possibly even better than Ramsey.

Talking about the sitter against Man City which arry's missus could have scored! Yeah I know, I saw it- what Im getting at is look at his contribution apart from the sitter. In both games he has been arguably Spurs best player and is creating chance after chance for them. I think we can forgive him missing one easy chance. It would be more unforgivable if he was a striker.

He's either scored or set up 6 of the last 9 competitive Spurs goals. If that's not a stunning contribution I don't know what is (Stat nicked from OptaJoe on Twitter).

bale is 21. ramsay is 19 - these two are going to be (injuries permitting) among the best in the world - so says brian flynn on ramsay/harry redknapp on Bale - can't believe some people can't see it. Miserable sods.

Refer to an earlier thread on Bale for my qualified support for Bale. V Good player with flaws which means he is not in the giggs class. Giggs at the same age was a better player but after his hamstrings went could no longer rely solely on his acceleration. Take Bales pace away and you have an ordinary player

Take Bales pace away and you have an ordinary player Thats overly harsh, when has Giggs ever been able to put land a ball directly on someones head? I dont think hes totally mastered that in his 20 years in the game. For a winger his crossing has been inconsistent since day one. By contrast Against Man City Bale was targeting Crouch with crosses all day long. Bale also has the ability to beat a man and has good shooting ability, another thing in my opinion that Giggs lacks. Imo Giggs for the most part has been an above average player who whilst having fantastic dribbling ability has only produced the odd 90 minutes of brilliance. But hes mainly gone a long way with his professional attitude and dedication. Bale wont win as much, but I can see him being a better player in terms of consistency and contribution.

Well if nothing else you are not afraid to eke out a few crumbs to support your case, which i tip my hat to. All i can say is i hope Bale becomes the world class player that many tip him to be and that he and a few others lead Wales to a qualification. On that i'm sure we agree.

And what i neglected to say was how technically accurate he is with his face! Yes, when has Giggs face ever been that prolific? We certainly agree on hoping Bale leads our charge towards qualification. Dare I say it, in the form he is in he could take on Montenegro on his own. Am I being overly paranoid though in my thinking that the better he gets the harder its going to be to get him to play for Wales? He is the heartbeat of that Spurs side and I think that could lead to difficulties (or should I say "injuries") further down the line....

I don't think you'll see him missing the games that matter - competitive internationals that might help us qualify for something. I can see him not always turning up for friendlies, or, at a stretch, the odd competitive match when we're mathematically out of qualifying.
Players still want to play for their countries at the highest level - Bale is no different.

Knit and wrap him in a nice cotton wool balaclava and a left foot sock to protect his scoring assets and he/we'll be fine. On another note could not help thinking how decent our squad would have been with Ramsey Collison and Davies but not to be. These two games require 24 players who will give everything for the cause but in a controlled and sensible fashion. Something we welsh are not so good at.

Name another player at 21 or younger who's making the impact in the Premiership that Bale is right now.
Walcott's the only one that comes close now that Ramsey is injured.
We are so lucky that Bale is ours its unbelievable. His attacking threat is awesome. Any talk of him playing left back for us is lunacy.

Spurs into CL group stages after beating Young Boys 4-0. Great news for Bale but hope he doesn't suffer burnout from all those extra games.

Can't really blame English commetators for mentioning young nglish players, when they're looking for youth in the near future. Everyone knows how good Bale is.

Im sorry, but when you bang on for two minutes about a Huddlestone 5 yard pass played with the outside of the foot then I think you have problems.
