I hadn’t even heard of Qatar until this game haha.
I remember John Robinson scored the winner.
A bloke I knew from my local was working in the Middle East with a Qatar international and he said he only trained once a week, like playing for a local team haha (this story could be bollocks of course but just passing his anecdote on)

Really enjoyed the first part of that article Ade.
Has part two been confiscated by the Qatar neighbourhood watch brigade as couldn't find the link anywhere.
Like Mars I had never heard of that country before the 2000 Feb friendly. Funny how things have gone full circle just over 20 years on.

That said they did actually get close to making France 98, think they missed out on qualifying in final game so that was their Romania moment and probably one of their best ever teams as haven't come close to actually qualifying properly for a World cup since. |

I have a programme from this game somewhere. I think a friend of a friend was working in Qatar. Will see if I can dig it out at some point and share on here.
Edit: Just realised that most of the programme is already included in the article. Which really is a good read!

There was another story somewhere a while back about Wales playing Saudi Arabia and they got paid in cash.
The story talked about FAW members coming back to Wales with £25k in cash in a suitcase or something haha
