17 year old striker, formerly of Caernarfon Town, now with TNS. Scored 3 in 13 for Caernarfon last season, two of which were against TNS which prompted them to sign him up for £25k This season he has 6 goals in 5 league games, with most of his minutes as a substitute. He scored the equaliser against Connah's Quay a few days ago, and scored the first goal in their 7-0 win against Broughton tonight. Here's the CQ goal highlights: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n5VfBVbXYA&ab_channel=SgorioAccording to this tweet he plays down the middle as a number 9. There's also an interview after he joined TNS talking about how Welsh is his first language, and he's recently had to brush up on his English whilst playing for TNS A very interesting one to keep an eye on. IMO it would be a very good move to call him up to the U17s or U19s and see how he does. Would be good for our pyramid to have a promising youngster in there, and hopefully makes it seem more viable for loans etc...

Those are excellent stats. Transfermarkt has him down as scoring every 20 minutes. Hope he can keep that up!
Seriously though, I agree. I believe the ‘05s are u18s this season so wouldn’t hurt calling him up and seeing what he can do. Risk-free as they only play friendlies.
I know people are sceptical about the standard of the league, but not many players will be posting those numbers at that age. Will stand him in great stead playing against men too.

Sounds a good lad. I like how he said coming off the bench you got to make the most of the minutes you're given. Sounds like he's got a good attitude.

I really hope that in 3 and a half years time this thread is more than 100 pages deep and includes chat from two tournaments, I'm desperate for some romance!

In 3 starts, 11 sub appearances, 379 minutes of football, Gwion managed 8 goals for TNS. A goal every 47 minutes.

It's fantastic to see, although you'd hope for him that someone from the English pyramid takes a chance on him eventually. Maybe another season with TNS where he gets more games, then look for a move

Yeah I think another season, given his age, at TNS would probably do him some good, then hopefully Newport could go in for him. I really like the idea of Newport, a shoestring budget club, picking up decent Welsh players from the Welsh leagues and bedding them into their first team.

Agreed, though wondering whether Wrecsam might be a good option too. Hopefully will build up their youth teams from now on and enough matches to get some senior appearances in a very positive environment. North Wales might be a better fit for a Caernarfon lad too?

That's what I was thinking. Makes more sense from that perspective, although I think he'd be less likely to get games at Wrecsam so might be worse for his development ultimately

Unless he's going anywhere to play first team football surely staying where he is, training on a full-time basis and being on the cusp of a starting berth, is better for his development?
Like them or not, TNS' setup is very good. We don't want the league's best prospects all rushing off at first sight, how does it improve then?

No definitely would like to see him develop there another season. Hopefully he can start more games next season. Just saying that eventually you'd like to see him join a club in the English system if he is a real talent
