Ha, what's the issue exactly? We've made some brilliant appointments, including one of the most highly thought of up-and-coming coaches who is assistant at Man U, and a really well-thought-of premier league fitness coach. It's not like we've brought in Gunter and no one else. There's a good chance we've just given Gunter that role as a bit of a bonus without looking for another coach - I'm not aware that he's replacing anyone in particular and it's not like we've chose him over another more tactically astute and experienced coach. There's a good chance it's just seen as a bit of a win-win for both sides. Gunter probably isn't getting paid much for it but get's a development opportunity as well as staying involved, while we get someone who's well-respected and liked by the group, is good for morale and can help out on the coaching side, and probably isn't being paid much (if anything).
Weren't all those moaning about his squad inclusions calling for this - saying that he should just go with the squad as part of the non-playing staff? So what's the issue now?

All respect to Gunter as a player obviously, but I feel we need proper tacticians. This is a bit jobs for the boys....... Also, didn't Page say he had a 'senior player committee' prior to the WC? Was Gunter part of this 'committee'? Maybe he feels he can't do the job without them?! I can't believe how overblown this 'senior player committee' thing is. I'm pretty sure it's standard practice within any football side (or rugby for that matter) to have a group of senior players that are consulted with. It's not an abdication of responsibility. I'm sure many of you will be horrified by this, but Page said just the other day that the committee still exists! Duh duh duh! The things some of you come out with, I wouldn't be surprised if you were QAnon types.

How does that work with Wimbledon then? They have 2 games during the international break.

We’re in desperate need of coaching excellence around Page who couldn’t cut the mustard at Northampton town and Port Vale. To bring Gunter in is a complete insult to welsh coaches.

Don't see the fuss. He'll probably only be an assistant coach doing functions, warm ups, set pieces etc.
There'll be input from the likes of Page, Knill and Ramsey in his sessions too I imagine.

There's a chance Gunter goes on to be an amazing coach 🤯 why not give opportunities as long as it doesn't interfere too much. I doubt many experienced coaches would want 3/4 voices above theirs anyway. I doubt Osian Roberts would come back and be the 4th opinion to be put across in a meeting.

def what a good way to blood any future coaches - he's played at the highest level for club and country and total dedication. This is exactly what we should be doing, comparisons of jobs for the boys is poor - we used to bring in washed out players who had never made it or who had been big mates during playing days. This is totally different. He comes across a clever bloke too.

I would maybe challenge you on use of word experienced but agree that it takes certain skills and interests to be fourth in line. Chris Gunter speaks really well in that February interview with Wimbledon youtube channel and right to use this as chance to develop for the future. He seems to be easing into mentor/coach role at The Dons too.

Interesting read on Eric Ramsey: www.coachesvoice.com/cv/eric-ramsay-manchester-united-chelsea/Good to see he's described as "one of the most highly rated young British coaches around". He specialises in building out from the back when under pressure - he'll certainly have his work cut out for him with the likes of Rodon at the back.

I’m shocked and appalled with this appointment from Page. We need coaching experience for a younger squad. It’s sentimentality and shows how out of his depth Page is Shocked and appalled? I think that's a very dramatic reaction if I am honest. I think he can bring a lot to the camp. I would be shocked and appalled if I was a Dons fan though, they pay his wages. I imagine the FAW will have to have paid them some compensation for his release given hes not in the playing squad they have no obligation to allow him to go. He's basically calling time on his playing career doing this.
