And who plays in midfield? Exactly. They're not really being tested at Championship level. Especially last night.

A bit ironic given I've made exactly the same point at the same time on another thread. I agree that the Championship is of a high standard, but the 3 relegated sides plus Ipswich are at a different level again. This year may be anomalous in that there has never been such quality relegated from the Premier League before.

Can't see Page not going with 3 at the back and 2 holding midfielders which means Ampadu in midfield I'd say.
Longer term though 4 at the back could well become preferable so to have an established club pairing could be useful.

This year may be anomalous in that there has never been such quality relegated from the Premier League before. I brought it up because those Rodon/Ampadu stats are quite impressive and neither of them were playing in the Premier League last season. Leeds also lost 10 of their best players due to relegation loan clauses in their contract, or they just bailed on the club. Number of Premier League starts for current players during the previous season: Meslier 34 Firpo 14 Struijk 26 Summerville 12 Gnonto 14 Rutter 1 Gray 0 Bamford 18 Some of these players are still quite young as well - Gray 17, Gnonto 20, Rutter 21, Summerville 22, Meslier 23, so I would say the new manager deserves some credit too.

And who plays in midfield? That's the conundrum, Ampadu has been a top player in two positions this season, with him and Joe being on the same wavelength at the heart of the defence. I don't think the coming playoff games are the best time to experiment, but it's something that could looked at in a friendly game.

We lack the depth in midfield to play Ampadu anywhere else, the drop off from him and James is sharp Until a good midfielder emerges then Ampadu has to stay in there. If you moved him out of midfield next month you're looking at someone like Levitt or Smith in there or we shoehorn in Ramsey or Wilson. Either way it doesn't end well

Leeds have good players to play in CM, we don't. Therefore Ampadu in midfield and Rodon at the back is the way. Unfortunate that Mepham didn't get a move in Jan too but you can guarantee a back 3 of Mepham-Rodon-Davies

Haven't seen enough of Sheehan in a Wales shirt to form a firm opinion but he's technically able and very well thought of at Bolton by all accounts.

Sheehan is playing the best football of his career atm, and is just glorious to watch, plus thankfully his injury worries (and the mental hesitancy that brings) behind him, but he's not in the same mould physically as Ampadu. However, in a game where we are expected to be on the front foot, or at least on an even level, and with JJ as his minder, he would be more than able to fill that deep lying playmaker role. I would have more faith in him than shoehorning Ramsey into that position.

I like Sheehan, a good footballer who has had some serious injuries really hamper his career. I'd consider him able to play at Championship level.
That said i dont think we can really play anything other than Ampadu and James in midfield. We've looked much better with that pairing.

When we find a midfield solution I think Ampadu will become our first choice CB. JJ was the first piece of the puzzle in that sense, and I even think JJ-Morrell can be a good pairing, but we ought to be looking for someone with greater potential than Morrell as well to see Ampadu move back

I’ve seen Amps at CB and CM for Leeds and Cymru and he’s outstanding in both but I think his best position is midfield with his passing ability. In the cup game vs Chelsea cup game he dominated midfield with young Archie against £200m worth of players.

Just one more game left for the Welsh lads after a few shaky team performances during the run-in.
