Had a look at their respective stats on fbref and I was frankly astonished. The relative strengths and weaknesses are not what I expected. Neco is very good defensively, whereas Connor's record in the past year is seriously awful. However, Connor's goal contribution in assists and goals, and his possession stats are extremely impressive, whereas Neco's possession stats are very poor. I knew they were very different full backs, with Neco adventurous and risk taking, with Roberts more conservative, but hadn't quite appreciated that they couldn't possibly have more contrasting strengths and weaknesses. fbref.com/en/players/dd323728/Neco-Williamsfbref.com/en/players/24fae784/Connor-Roberts

Connor couldn't get into that Burnley team, whereas Neco seems to be establishing himself for Forest, so I'd say that's a good indication of who is better out of the two. Moving forwards I would like to see Neco starting RWB

Neco's stats are based on his time in the PL, Roberts in the Championship. Neco is playing for a struggling team at a higher level whereas Roberts is playing for a good team at a lower level (Leeds and Burnley). Hence Roberts looks better in possession based on stats. If you change the parameters to look at Roberts' output in the Premier League then the picture and the type of player he's compared to changes significantly Neco's the better player of the two

Neco for me, with Connor on the bench as back-up.

What's really striking is just how poor Roberts' defensive stats are despite the fact that he played in the Championship winning Burnley side. Perhaps it's down in part to his inverted full back role, so he has fewer defensive responsibilities? Even more striking though are Neco's defensive stats, especially as they're for a Premier League outfit. In part that will be down to Forest being on the back foot a lot of the time, so there will be a lot more opportunities to get those numbers up. But even so, those stats are very impressive, and is making me revise my view of him as being strong going forwards but not so good defensively. Looks like much more of an all-rounder.

The stats they use for Roberts' percentiles that you linked are his Championship stats. Underneath it says: "Player compared to positional peers in Men's Next 14 Competitions over the last 365 days. Based on 1165 minutes played.", from this time last season he played 12 games for Burnley which is 1080 minutes, add on his 85 for Leeds and you get 1165. If you go into the scouting report you can switch it to see his Prem stats and how he compares: fbref.com/en/players/24fae784/scout/365_m1/Connor-Roberts-Scouting-Report that's the only one that takes his PL games into account I agree with you I think the inverted full back role is a part of the reason for the worse defensive stats
