FAW President suspended

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has suspended its president, Steve Williams, pending an investigation.

It is understood the FAW's council was informed of the decision last week, with no date set yet for Williams' hearing.

Welsh football's governing body has not disclosed the reason for the suspension.

Williams was elected FAW president in 2021 and has a year left on his term.

Before being voted into the position, he had served with the council for more than two decades and sat as vice-president.

Williams oversees the running of Welsh football at all levels, and was involved in the process to sack Rob Page as manager of Wales' men's national team last month.

Williams told BBC Sport Wales: "I cannot comment. It's for the FAW to comment."

While the FAW has not provided a comment, it has acknowledged there is an ongoing case.

My gut feeling is that’s he’s leaking information to press. Welsh football press always seem a day ahead. Have done for years. He’s the mole!

Paul Abbandanato published that Osian was out of the running a day before. It’s not just Paul. Welsh media always get the info way before official announcements.

They would have to suspend half the council if it was for leaking Info to the press…. they have been doing it for years.

Funnily enough I was listening to a podcast with Craig Bellamy in it earlier today. He was talking about Giggs getting the job over him, and mentioned how the votes were tied at 3 vs 3 after interview, and the president got the deciding vote

Maybe it's just a coincidence this is happening during a manager hunt, but who knows?

As a ex employee of the FAW this comes as no great shock, couple of theories doing the rounds as to why his has left his role
Noel Mooney should ( but won’t ) come out and give precise reasons as to why Steve Williams has lost his position as President
……,,,,,,,, and Mooney still goes about his day to day business without a care in the world
