Guess he must feel some attachment to Wales and/or the Welsh setup as it seems unusual on the face of it that he has chosen to represent us while playing football in Northern Ireland. Lets hope he's committed. I assume Bellamy will be a good draw for him (and Jones seems to have been doing decently at age grade level).

Yeah his wiki said he went to high school in Belfast. Does have a Welsh grandad too

I’d be shocked if he ends up playing for us rather than Northern Ireland tbh.
Yes he was born in Wales but given he grew up in Belfast and his dad was a N Ire international, it would feel a bit strange for the lad to play for us personally.

Who cares. He was actually made captain when he played for us most recently, despite being based in Belfast. If he wants to represent us then great. He was born here and has a Welsh grandparent so its not as though he has no link. Just as strong a link of the many English born players who are elevating our level of quality and ability to achieve!

Agree, there appears to be no hard and fast loyalty to family these days, I am completely flabbergasted that Archie Gray chose England with his Scottish footballing lineage.

Think you’re missing the point. Think we’d all welcome him as he looks like a good prospect. But I share some of the skepticism that he’ll eventually choose NI when he seems to have much stronger ties to them. This is completely different to the English qualified guys who, let’s be honest, have largely settled for us because they’re not good enough for England. If we’re being honest, I’m sure 90%+ of your Ash Williams’ or Kieffer Moores who were born and raised in England to English parents, but have one Welsh grandparent, would have chosen them over us given the choice. In this case, we can safely assume if Feeney’s good enough for us he’s also good enough for NI! So it will be his choice to make

The population of Northern Ireland is around 35 times smaller than England’s. It’s nothing like our England born/brought up players. I’d be surprised if he chose us over NI.

There's bound to be some family affinity to Wales if his grandad was born here, he was born here and you consider Warren's ties to Cardiff (and Newport and Swansea!)
Be surprised if he chose us over NI but you never know
Wonder if Warren was ever approached to play for Wales with a Welsh born father?

Could well be doing what we do with the young dual qualified lads and get them to experience different set ups.
To add another view, maybe from his own standpoint he might feel Wales are in a better position to qualify for major tournaments unlike Northern Ireland.
Not something black and white when you're dual qualified there's always a bit of nuance particularly when two nations are closer in stature.

I would question the source. But the source has probably been questioned plenty of times in the past. 🤔🚨

It’s a Calum Kavanagh type tie tbf. It’d be like RND lining up for Saudi Arabia. I have a feeling that he’ll refrain from committing to a country just yet, and eventually choose NI.
From what I inference from the rules, if he plays competitively for our u17s, he’s tied to us. Already played in UEFA competition with NI u17s.
Worth mentioning his Swansea born Grandad also played for NI.
I think NI will go in hard for him. His situation has already been referenced by M O’N. I find his actions curious, mind - not sure he’d have done what he’s done if he was ‘dead-set’ on NI.
Of course, though, I’d be delighted were he to stick with Cymru.

Be surprised if he chose us over NI but you never know Wonder if Warren was ever approached to play for Wales with a Welsh born father? Think someone said he was born in Belfast? So presumably his only connection to us is a grandparent and the fact his dad played for a Welsh club for a few years (before he was born presumably?)

Warren was at Cardiff 16 years ago so he may well be Cardiff born, as someone else said it could be like the Kavanagh situation (I don't think Kav jr ever played for Wales?) Northern Ireland has its own... issues that can lead to someone not wanting to represent them at all aswell. Feel like if you're dead set on NI you wouldn't consider Wales and vice versa, its different to England

I see he was not named in the latest U17 squad
Does that mean he has decided to go with Northern Ireland after all?

I see he was not named in the latest U17 squad Does that mean he has decided to go with Northern Ireland after all? I did think the same but after giving it some more thought I think perhaps it could be to allow him time to settle at Spurs which is a massive step up in intensity from Glentoran

Well we will see. I guess now he has ended up at a big club then Northern Ireland will double down on their attempts to get him back. Hopefully he continues to see sense!

He played in Uefa qualifiers last year for NI so with this year's qualifiers coming up he'd have had to have filed his one time official nationality switch to represent us and probably hasn't done that yet, or maybe not ready to?

We will see next week how the U17 squad will perform without him, also to note the squad performances looked better last month in their Portugal and France friendlies, spirit in camp is good

Wish him well. Always seemed a bit of a long shot him feeling enough of a connection to play for us over Northern Ireland, but I hope he enjoyed the experience and feels a little more Welsh because of it.
