This is basically what Lauren Blanc was saying before all the do gooders twisted his words and made him sound like a nazi.
Do you remember the rousing chorus of "you're Welsh and you know you are" that Hargreaves was given when he came on the pitch against us?
I think Rhys would enjoy a chorus of that.

Sorry to be the partypooper, but surely supporting the lads against what shall be a strong Aussie side should be the priority and not abusing Williams? It's irritating how he swapped us for Australia yeah, but he's made his decision and it's not worth giving him the satisfaction of abuse to be honest!

I'm sure we'll all be 100 per cent behind Wales as well. I think the chant suggested above - a little nod to Williams' Welsh connection - is fine. Many of us sent him well wishes as he recovered from the injury sustained in Romania if you recall. What would be great is if we could give some good vocal support to Williams' former Under-21 team mates ... Ramsey, Bale, King, etc. Give Rhys a taste of the support he could have received from us.

Some decent players in that squad, but when I look at it on the whole I feel we ought to be able to get a result at home.
I normally respect dual quals if they state from the start who they want to play for, however, Williams did not do this and took us for a ride. I'll say this: it would be very nice to see Williams come off as a 57th minute sub with the score at 3-0 to Wales.

Why call him Judas? He was ready to play for Wales but Toshack, as usual, stroked his own ego by humiliating a player and didn't bring him on. It was a very blatant slap in the face.

Not a bad side. A younger more pacier outfit than the one that was in Germany but beatable all the same. Australia almost always "turn up" for friendlies and have built their success on the back of that attitude. Wales can learn from that. The bad attitude of the "stars" at friendly time must end if Wales are to launch themselves into the Brazil qualifiers

@trendy, he was called into the squad for the September 2008 matches and was on the bench for the Poland match on 11-2-2009 but was not given game time. He was faced with a continuation of Toshack's management and three months later opted for Australia.

I must admit, I wasn't aware of that. So, it would appear that he was in fact willing to play for us and didn't take the piss with the u21s.
Not many people seem to be aware of this...seems strange.

As much as I dislike Williams, Toshack has to take a massive share of the blame for his defection. This is a prime example of his appalling man management skills.

That's the key, isn't it, giving Williams a competitive cap. Of course that Azerbaijan match was when Wales U21s were very much in contention for Euro 2009, Williams must have fancied his chances of being involved in that. So at that point he must have seen a future with Wales.
But then Rhys was also selected for the Wales v Germany squad in April 2009, but withdrew, citing injury. I guess our chance of securing his services had gone by that stage.
Although it doesn't change the fact that Williams decided not to choose Wales. I'm sure he'll be briefing his Australian team mates about his former U21 colleagues.
Let this be a lesson to Gary Speed - cap Jack Collison versus Montenegro!

I cant believe people are trying to blame Tosh because a player decided not to commit to us.
He was Welsh when it suited him, so he deserves every bit of stick he gets. The only thing Tosh did wrong was by not playing him and tying him to us and stopping him from playing for his beloved Australia.
Lets be fair, seeing how he jumped ship at the first opportunity how much commitment would we have got from him if Tosh had capped him? Right now I bet he would be conveniently injured and thats just for starters.

i thought it was finland when wales where playing abismal and tosh refused to put him on, that was what made him say ive had a gutsfull, has a point though he should have been braught on that day
however no it's not tosh's faul his lack of commitment but tosh could've handled it much better

What pisses me off is Toshack's attitude. Flynn put in hard work to recruit this lad and worked with him in the under 21s. We knew Australia were sniffing around and needed to get him to commit. He is called in to the squad for the Azerbaijan game - all Tosh had to do was name him on the bench and give him 5 mins at the end. His idiocy and stubbornness cost us a decent player. Ok, he may not be fantastic but it was complacent to let him slip away. Good shout!

toshack certainly cut his nose to spite his face with his management of williams,he could have given him a few minutes really
but in his defence i dont think he should take the blame for this,i believe caps are ment to be earned not handed out willy nilly, williams attitude has to be called into question..heres a young lad who was still at under 21 level, hadnt broken into a senior side thinking he has the right to play for a nation?on the back of that he immediately packed wales in,no fighting for his place..nothing..packed it in and went elsewhere
how committed to the cause do you think he would be to the cause if he had got on the pitch for a few minutes that day? not very!
that said,im still in no doubt that toshack got a sick little kick out of upsetting people, even if it ment it made his job that little bit harder
egomaniac
