Well, if there was such a think as a player index for the Welsh squad, last night's performance would have had the following effects, I would have thought:
Those who played themselves further UP the pecking order: King Morrison Vaughan Ledley Cotterill (Bellamy not included here as cant really get any higher)
Those who played themselves DOWN the pecking order Stock Earnshaw
In the formations index, 4-5-1 would seem now, like it or not, to be our preferred shape. Tosh certainly said so after the match.
Which would mean our first team would appear to be:
Hennessey/Myhill
Rickets Collins Williams Gunter
Bale Ledley Ramsey Collison Bellamy
Evans/Church/Morrison/Vokes
Furthermore, the team that will play against Montenegro, all fit will be:
Hennessey/Myhill
Rickets Collins Williams Gunter
Bale Ledley King Edwards Bellamy
Morrison

Stock and Earnshaw pretty much played themselves out of the team for Montenegro- it would be suicidal to give the ball away like they did last night to a team as technically good as them.
I hope Andy King has played himself in. He did enough for me. Will our glorious leader agree? We'll have to wait and see who's fit and playing nearer the tie though. David Edwards has been out a long, long time and has to be a concern. Joe Alle could be back in contention with a run of games for Swansea too.

I think Vaughan is overlooked far too often. He keeps things ticking over nicely and rarely gives the ball away

Ledders had an excellent second half. Hope people stop slagging him off now for being "anonymous".

Talking about Vaughan, I gotta say that a couple of years ago, about the time he came back from Spain not having cut it over there, and only lowly Blackpool were interested in signing him, I was writing him off. He played some games for us playing out wide, did reasonably well in one of them, but as a 'winger' looked like a busted flush at international level. He was nowhere near the national team for me.
But I've gotta say now, judging by the last two games I've seen him play in - Blackpool playoff victory and vs Lichtenstein - that he's got a strong shout for a defensive midfield position for us. Even stronger if he ends up a starter with the 'Pool in the Prem. He's got experience that helps with defensive positioning. And he's got a great long pass, which given our emphasis on attacking wide (Bale/Bellers), is a big boost. The way Huddlestone pings long balls that Bale brings out of the air with ease for Spurs shows a way forward...
Cutting it short, I'd say for the three games this year, it's him and King fighting over the def mid position, possible both playing when we're away.

The fact is that he's the only Welsh midfielder who played 90 minutes in the premiership today (and in a winning side). As a result he should be a dead cert.

Sod the welsh player index. Everyone knows "the dearth quotient" is the only reliable barometer of how well welsh talent is progressing.

Lovely to get a mention of the "Dearth quotient", I'll publish the team that this would produce in advance of the Montenegro game.
Basically it's based on players in their first team and the level that they are playing at.
