There is well known friction between Swansea and Cardiff fans. This can even be on show in Welsh games, in one way or another. I for one think that this has held Wales back in some way i.e poor crowds-which leads to a lack of atmosphere not so much motivation for the players etc. I think the interview he gave was spot on, when it comes to Welsh football. Imagine how much good it would do Welsh football if we could have two teams in the premiership. They could (well I hope) have more money to invest in their own youth program's. Lets hope Wrexham and Newport can get back into the Football league stay there and make their marks. My only worry is that he could get knocked around more and possibly miss more games or would his reactions slow down due to playing at a lower level but that's for a different thread. Anyway here's the link www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/swansnews/Bellamy-pull/article-2539009-detail/article.html

Agree with him 100%. Personally as a Wrexham supporter I want all Welsh teams to do well. Its more beneficial to the national team if they do.

I'm a Swansea fan and I'd be happy to see Cardiff in the prem as it would be fantastic for the national team. However, can it unite the nation? No is the simple answer. Trust me, if I were to make my feelings known at he liberty that I'd like to see cardif go up, I wouldn't make it out in one piece. And that's not a joke either. Been said a million times I know but 90% of jacks don't care about Wales.

Ye I go down to The Liberty with 4 other guys who all go to the Wales games too. However, the talk before every Upcoming Wales game in the seats all around us (and at work) is derogatory towards the national team, unprintable stuff. The politest thing u'l hear is 'i'm watching England instead'. For any non swans fans go onto the planet swans forum a few days before Wales v Bulgaria at Cardiff in Oct and u'l have the full monty. The only reason I'm highlighting this is because it's the one thing that annoys me about our fans in Swansea

To say that about 90% of swans dont care about Wales is a bit over the top. Im a jack fan as my user name is a bit of a give away but im not sure why more swans fans aren't into watching OUR national team silly really. The only reason I can give is due to Cardiff fans strong links with the National team well when I say Cardiff fans what I mean is the Soul Crew who are not every Cardiff fan So I should have re-worded that then. That the only reason I can give, which makes Bellers comments even more valid in my eyes. Saying that I dont like watching Wales play anymore due to the number of Cardiff tops I saw last time which is not a problem in itself but it is when peoples attitude's change when they Can hear your accent and want to know where your from why I dont know. To say you would want to see Cardiff do well watching the Swans would be risky but any less than saying you would like to see the Jacks do well watching Cardiff. I hope the attendances improve and the atmosphere gets better. I think bellers comments might have an affect on relations between both sets of fans. I couldn't care less who plays or supports which club team as long as your national team is Wales who cares. Hopefully there will only be red of wales in the crowd for now on and NO more club colours, unless of course your a wrexham fan lol

no1skewenjack, what would you put the number of Swans fans who attend Wales games? 14k average crowd for Swansea matches I'd estimate that no more than 500 of those would have any interest in attending a Wales match anywhere other than at the Liberty. If you don't agree that's fine, it's an emotive subject I know but that's my honest estimation.

There is a cultural embarrasment that still exists in parts of Wales. Remember Bonny Tyler at the height of her fame declaring she was embarrassed by her Welsh accent? She has changed this view since but it spoke volumes about the antipathy towards the Welsh Football team which apart from brief flurries in 76, 81, 91, Italy has been sidelined by the prem stars in the england team. I grew up as a kid not realising Wales had a team until i was about 9. Even then i felt confused when England played them as i thought England was our team? In Rugby it was different but Football was the poor relation. In Rugby by and large the welsh team are welsh in Football we have too many loosely affiliated welsh. It doesn't really lift the spirits when you know that a) they perhaps wouldn't die for the shirt and b) they only chose us because there was no chance of a cap in the country of their birth. Swansea Neath Port Talbot was a very British area when i grew up. To an extent it still is. I hate that. I suggest that the WElsh national Psyche is like that of a 38 year old man living at home with mam. Until we sort that out then i don't expect much to change.

I've said this before on DS, but Cardiff and Swansea fans are very similar when it comes to the national team. I'm a Cardiff fan and struggle every day in work with fans from my own team - I've just turned it into a game, how often can I mention Wales when discussing Cardiff's performance on the weekend etc! I'm a Cardiff fan from the Valleys though, and thats where I notice a difference. Cardiff fans from Cardiff are less likely to support their country for some reason.

But I still a lot of Swansea fans have a interest in Wales if not watch them. When you think of how many pubs are packed when theres a big game on a sunday i.e Man Utd and Liverpool then that proves that there's a big interest in football in Wales and the national team should get the same support. I just hope with Bellers comments the rift between Swansea and Cardiff improves and (HOPEFULLY) upward trun in our results that the numbers return to watch the lads.

I agree. And anyway why should it be united? Less violent, less vitriolic, less partisan perhaps...but united? I'd be interested to know which country out there has a club scene united behind the cause of the national team. I'd be amazed if tehre is one

I'd be amazed if tehre is one a fine example of what you just said would be the cyprus game in 05 i think when the stadium was empty because there were more players from a rival club playing. less violents would be amazing, theres no need for it and everyone should care about their national side more i feel. however cardiff and swanseas rivalry is good!. imagine of one got promoted how hard would the other team work. one of the best things that could happen now is if we had them both in the prem ( im feeling optimistic about cardiff) and if newport and wrexham had a rivalry going!

no1skewenjack Who are the Soul Crew then, never heard of them?,are they a pop group? I do agree with u that everyone should get behind Wales, but really u should not take any notice of what other fans are wearing,Dean Saunders would be a great asset to Swansea in getting into the premier league he has been an outstanding sucess at Wrexham news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/wrexham/8943738.stm
