I realise they only recently re-signed a deal to keep covering Wales games but I so wish they would drop their coverage and get it back on the beeb. You could swear that we aren't even playing if sky sports news is anything to go by. They give a bit of an update here and there at the bottom of the screen but reports of training, media sessions are virtually nil. Unlike their England, Scotland and even Republic of Ireland coverage of course. Sky's coverage must surely have an impact on attendances for our games too, our national team is just totally out of the spotlight. At least tomorrows game is on terrestrial tv on s4c - it's a start.

I agree with you. 95% of all tv watched is terrestrial tv which includes the BBC but the FAW are too thick and greedy to realise it. If it was on the BBC people would know about the games but at the moment probably more english people get to watch the Wales games than we do. We are being denied the right to watch our country play football for free, this does'nt happen in any other country ive ever been to, why ours? Not everyone can afford rip off sky and whats going to stop a kid taking up rugby instead of football because his family cant afford sky. This kid could end up being a great player but because the rugby is on the BBC the footy team misses out. I would say write an e-mail to complain to the FAW but ive written so many to them and got no reply they can go and f@ck themselves in their fossilized old ars@s. Thank god for S4C though.

We only put up with this totally ignorance because we are used to it being the norm.
If you imagine the build up to the wales v england qualifier on sky it will be totally based around one team as we all know - it's just appaling but there is little we can do about it.
We must just console ourselves with the hope that if we beat england we will rub it in more than anyone could imagine was possible - I know I will.

It's actually more like 51% who watch the terrestrial channels, and most of those are of pensionable age. It's a sad fact that most people petween the ages of 15 - 40 tend to watch Sky, particularly in Wales because there's a higher take-up of that here than anywhere else in the UK.
This makes it even harder to take in that case that they just give us token coverage.
Although I agree the FAW are money-grabbers, I can understand why they went to Sky in 2004 after the way the BBC shafted them right royally.

It is 95% it was in the news a couple of weeks ago. What about all the millions who watch that crap on saturday nights. If they watched sky it would be much much lower.

On a Saturday night yes you're right it probably is, unfortunately shite like the X Factor and Strictly rule, but weekly averages by BARB suggest that the rest of the time it's just over 50%.
Vandenhauwe's right tho that the BBC would still give more coverage to rugby even if Wales was back on terrestrial. Although we'd probably get a bit more coverage than we get at the moment from Sky - they enuinely don't give a toss about us.

Earlier on this evening I switched on Radio Wales hoping to listen to a preview of the Montenegro match, only to have to endure an hour's preview of the new rugby season. If you have that level of apathy for Welsh international football from your own media then any coverage from Sky should be seen as a bonus.

But that was Scrum V, their weekly rugby programme - it's ALWAYS about rugby and is billed as such. I heard interviews with Bellamy and Toshack on Radio Wales earlier in the day, it's not as if Radio Wales is ignoring us. Plus they've got live coverage of the match from 6pm on Friday, and are promising live updates from Podgorica from 6am on Friday and reaction from 7am on Saturday.

I know I keep harping on about the good old days of 2002, but we used to virtually fill the Mill then, and our games were on BBC and S4C. The move to $ky has killed the fairweather fan. Like someone mentioned above, the average person in Wales don't know when a Wales game is even on. That didn't happen with the Beeb. Remember those adverts? The "golf club swing" goal celebration? "I love you, baby"? We're still singing it at the matches for f*ck's sake.

The novelty factor of the new Mill Stad, a higher number of high profile stars, including Giggs, beating Italy, a fans' favourite manager and (possibly) the fact the rugby team were rubbish around that time all contributed to fairweathers flocking to watch us back then. Not forgetting cheaper tickets. Sky's coverage is pants but I don't think it can be blamed for lack of crowds at Wales games.

I hate Sky's coverage, always seems like they really can't be arsed with us. S4C broadcasting games in English would surely stop most of Sky's viewers?
Most people I know would rather not watch Sky for Welsh football.

They usually do a dedicated preview slot on a Wednesday evening (you know, with Rats and Ian Walsh talking crap) but there wasn't anything. And this is the beginning of a new tournament. Not good enough. The very least we should expect from our own media is the occasional update and live coverage. You make it sound as if they are doing us a big favour.

Sky's coverage started five minutes before kick-off! Not even sure they got the anthems.

I saw it advertised in a tv guide as on Sky Sports 1 and with a half hour build up. Switched over to S4C in anger when I realised it was on 3 with a five minute intro. Disgraceful coverage. Why buy the rights and then not bother?
Thankfully I will be in the ground for all the remaining qualifiers.

Why don't Sky screen the national anthems?
