When I first saw that I was shocked but your comparison with Lampard is interesting Trendy. I know some people will think Ledley to Roma is a joke, but Ryan Giggs said in his book that Lampards career at Chelsea has really taken him by surprise because he always thought of him as a decent, rather than top quality player at West Ham. I really rate Ledley- would be great to see him at a top, top club.
And I would absolutely love to see some Welsh players play on the continent, especially after what‘s happened to Rambo. Fernando Torres made a comment recently about how playing 5 or 6 years in England could leave him with serious post- football injury difficulties because the level of physicality is so much greater than anywhere else.
Bale to Bayern Munich? Collison to Juventus? Crofts to Real Madrid?

stock to barcelona if they can't agree a fee with arsenal for fabregas.
it's true, lampard never shone at west ham - he was a bit of a whipping boy with the fans (partly due to perceived nepotism with his dad being a coach there) when things went wrong.
certainly, he wasnt the goal scoring threat he is now.
if it's true, i assume that raineri can imagine being able to unlock ledley's potential at a bigger club, similar to lampard's experience.

This is looking less and less like Western Fail madness as the BBC is reporting that Ledley has flown to Rome today for talks following a visit to Celtic yesterday! Bellamy to Cardiff, Ledley to Roma, what next?! The Stock - Real Madrid and Nyatanga - Barcelona rumours have been quiet for a while now...

Hope Ledley doesnt choose Celtic. Wouldn't be a step up in development. Lots of championship level football, with sporadic losses against European teams: pretty much a simulation of what he already gets at Cardiff and Wales.
Would be interesting if he goes to Roma, but are they going for him as free squad filler?

Ranieri likes athletic, run-all-day midfielders. Ledley fits the bill. I don't know if he has the finesse to play in the middle in Italy though. For his age though, there aren't many players around with his number of games under the belt

if there is any possibility of this move happening, ledley HAS to take a chance on it.
seriously, he could be serieA champion this time next year! raineiri has developed a very good Project there.

It would be exceptionally cool if it happened. However, all rumours at the moment.

Agree, what an opportunity if it did come about, heck of a step up from Championship to Serie A, playing with De Rossi, Totti, Baptista etc couldn't be too bad though...
Italy didn't work out for Rushie and, erm, Craig Davies, but this could (and a big could) work out well for Ledley, didn't see this one coming! See how his trip to meet Ranieri goes...

YES! what a move this would be. Well worth a shot if Roma are really keen. Go Joe!

Welsh players who have played on the continent-
John Charles- Juventus, Roma Nick Deacy - PSV Eindhoven Ian Rush- Juventus Mark Hughes - Barcelona, Bayern Munich Dean Saunders- Benfica, Galatasary Mark Pembridge- Benfica David Vaughan - Real Sociedad
Gareth Roberts - Panioios (how do you spell that?!) Craig Davies - Hellas Verona
Put those last 2 down seperately because I'm not sure they played for Wales at the same time they were abroad (?)
Did I miss anyone?

To add to my above comment:
squatter1 - doubt Roma are looking at him as a squad filler. If they were, they'd go for someone Italian, to save on Italian language lessons. They are looking at him as a first teamer or at least a future prospect (remembering that italian football is slow-paced and players frequently play there into their late 30s), I'd guess. I also hope he snubs Celtic for the same reasons you gave.

Are we counting Ireland as continental? If so, add David Partridge, who played for St. Patrick's recently. Must be a few others who've played there too.

Oh yeah, can't believe I forgot Trevor Ford. Apparantly he scored 51 goal for PSV in the 57-58 season. Imagine if he'd gone to the world cup... we could have won the thing!
