So what? The performances of plenty of Welsh footballers down the years has made me cry... Aye, in fact I seem to recall having 'something in my eye' the night we lost to Poland at home as the Hughes era drew to a close. We battered them for 70 odd minutes and missed a hatful of changes before being smashed in a 5-10 minute spell that saw us concede 3 goals and eventually lose 3-2. And that was that, mathematically eliminated from another World cup only 4 games in despite looking the better team for much of the match. The next day all our senior players retired. Mathematical elimination from the 2006 World Cup didn't come until 5 months later: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4370015.stmAnd it wasn't officially over until Vienna: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4388125.stmBut, yes, I was gutted at the Poland result.

Hahahaha nah just geniunely gutted. With Hughes on its way it felt like the end of an era (as scoop said it wasn't mathematic,, although it was over in all but name given how far behind we were). Wonder how it would have turned out if we had held out and won 1-0 with Earnie's goal? Fine margins.

Well done Gareth, "while the cat's away" etc.
What are the bets that "the boss" rushes his return from injury so he can grab centre stage back from the worlds most expensive player?

The inference of that article is that Bale is more of a team player than Ronaldo. Obvious perhaps - but interesting from that source.
I wonder if Clements could be the next Swansea manager?

Played terrible the last 2 games, nothing has come down his side since Ronaldo come back. He just sticks to the touchline to provide the width for Ronaldo to do the business and when he doesn't do the business Bale will get the blame for doing nothing. Playing narrower has got him his goals so far at Madrid, he'll fail there if he continues to be used as something to make Ronaldo better.

Look at this guy. Must be such a temptation for him to get into a 'me' complex, but it is obvious him and Ramsey are just as passionate about Wales as us crazy fans. To mention Wales in an interview when unsolicited (playing here can help my country) underlines what a loyal guy he is. Please Wales qualify for something for the sake of these two - Giggs can never say he deserved to be on the big stage with Wales because he ultimately contributed so little, but these two deserve it. Him and Ramsey make me proud to be Welsh and to think they are still so young! “I enjoyed my time in England but I also like other styles of football and coming to Spain, I’ll learn other types of football, different ways to play and it will make me better as an all-round player, and hopefully it will make me better for my country. If other players did that I’m sure it’d help their games as well.” Interview: www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/players/gareth-bale/10531344/Gareth-Bale-homing-in-on-success-with-the-galacticos-of-Real-Madrid.html

I love the guy. Seriously love him.
For someone with his profile to care so much about his country, a country that will never give back what his talent puts in, is just absolutely brilliant. His love for Wales is unconditional on how shit we are and if that is good enough for Gareth Bale its damn well good enough for every other player available to us.
I really hope some of our more fickle players are watching, learning and feeling slightly embarrassed.

And, a bit out of leftfield here, he MUST be given some sort of influential role with the FAW after he retires. This is the sort of person we need on the council, someone who actually cares.

Yet another great post Storm!!!
Totally agree with you - if we had 11 Bales on the field and 36 on the FAW council we would not only qualify for a WC but win it LOL!!!

What a boss.
This may explain why, as someone may have predicted, he has become a leader at Madrid already - he's an absolute stand up guy with a steely self confidence. Great stuff for us.
Question: Bale as captain?

Question: Bale as captain? Well, Ramsey is a bit younger and I think will be given the permanent captaincy again when Ashley Williams retires/is retired. Bale as vice captain perhaps. So brilliant to see such a megastar care so much about Wales. Are you watching Ryan Giggs?

Is anyone else getting pretty annoyed with his injury list this season? Pre-Madrid he was never injured this much, and although it may be just bad bloody luck, I'm starting to question how good the medical team are at Madrid if he still can't seem to keep himself in decent shape.
In all honesty I haven't been following him that much this season, but I'd say 8/10 times I tune in to watch Madrid he's either injured or comes off the bench for 20mins or so.

He was injured quite a lot a spurs to be fair.
It is depressing I agree. Imagine we had had qualifiers during the last six months: Bale, Ramsey, Allen, Williams, Collins, Matthews all had substantial time off injured. The difference between these kind of players being injured or not is going to make all the difference when the next campaign begins. We need a good roll of the injury dice next season.
