Stumbled upon this while on the FAW website, it just looks like they got somebody to roughly sketch our current badge! Is this going to be the new crest? Sorry if this has already been mentioned. www.faw-hospitality.co.uk/

I'll feel a bit for all the people who have a tattoo of the current crest if the FAW decide to pointlessly change it...

Crest aside, a few people have asked what the new chief exec is doing to bring in new sources of income... Clearly a properly branded hospitality section is one of those things... I guess the FAW are looking to maximize revenue from selling corporate packages at £95 or £125 a head.

I don't like that at all. Our one is classic, no need to change it.

Relax everyone, the new match poster for Wales v Bulgaria contains the original FAW crest (as does the new Umbro shirt of course).

That's awful. What's wrong with the classic crest?
The new one looks like it's been given the same treatment as the Republic of Ireland's logo did a few years ago.

It'll be the design company who built the website. If I was Jonathan Ford I would ask somebody to produced a proper vector logo for the F.A.W. so it can be scaled up and down and used consistently over publicity material.
I prefer the original one but if swishing up the logo is part of a more professional approach to marketing going I could put up with it.

The new one looks too arty farty and doesn't show the dragon off very well. I think there are more important things in Welsh football to sort out than wrecking our emblem.

Yes, it's one thing using the new logo to put on the corporate hospitality - completely unacceptable to change the traditional crest on the shirts - could we boycott any training gear replica kit, etc, with the new logo?

From the above link: "The new badge sees 11 daffodils represent the 11 footballers around the edge of the crest, but sees the Dragon’s head turned to face forward to illustrate the directions the Wales side are taking" Only marketing folk believe this sort of bollocks has any credibility whatsoever. Bill Hicks was right: www.endevil.com/billhickslines.html

Christ Almighty. So this is what Johnny Ford has spent the past year doing then...
This makes me angry. Its not so much the actual design, just the fact that he really thought changing the crest was a priority. Surely, he has some idea that there are roughly 200 more urgent things that need addressing in Welsh football before dicking around with the best badge in the world?
Just incase you didn't actaully realise Johnny, here we go (again)
- poor attendances- what can be done? -more promotion of games -better media coverage - tv rights- GET WALES OFF SKY!!! - better marketing generally- especially towards young football fans in Wales - Help get the racecourse up to standard for competitive games - Bidding for the U21 championships(include a ground in North Wales for godssake) - Sort the League of Wales out - SUMMER FOOTBALL!!!! - More all weather floodlit pitches in Wales - Train more coaches to a higher standard ...and so on...

I can't see the need for the change, there are far more important things to sort out in Welsh football and totally agree with Flynnfan's points.
What also annoys me though is the way they have tried to slip in quietly some parts of the website without any announcement on the homepage and news section.

I won't be buying anything with the new crest on it. I'll be writing a complaint email.
Our current crest is perfect, it doesn't need to be changed. I bet Umbro will be happy.

Given everything that's broken with Welsh football they decide to change............the badge???
I wouldn't mind if it was a crap badge but that Dragon is the business, what the hell at they thinking?

Oh, sweet Jesus. What on earth gave them this idea? Cardiff tried changing their badge a few years back, and have now reverted. That case study should have served as ample evidence that messing around with badges is not a good thing to do.
In fairness to Ford there's not a lot he can do about some of the issues in Welsh football; e.g. he has no power to change the WPL's structure without the clubs' agreement and if the fans want to stay away despite reasonable ticket prices for the Bulgaria game (£15 adults/£5 concessions), that's their call. But I can't see how he can justify taking a £100,000 salary for doing something any schoolchild would happily do for free.

I've heard they're only changing it because the old badge doesn't have a copyright.
Bought the new shirt last week for £40. Looks like it's gonna be the last ever Wales shirt I'll be buying. The badge we have now is a classic. I hope no one buys stuff with the new badge on and the FAW (Fuckin Annoying Wankers) will have to revert back to the one we have now. Rant over. ;D

I've heard they're only changing it because the old badge doesn't have a copyright. That wouldn't surprise me, Posh did that a couple of years ago. What I don't understand is the timing of the new crest. We've just sent out a host of new membership packs, have a new strip with a new supplier and a new range of training wear all with the old crest on it.

I wrote a 'paper' to Mr Ford back in January with a number of points on how to improve Welsh football, one thing I stressed was that the FAW crest should be left alone, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Good to see the Chief Exec taking that on board then... The new crest is hideous! We have a classic, iconic crest, and to change it for corporate reasons, for Mr Ford to stamp his authority, or just for change's sake is totally unacceptable. With so many problems in Welsh football, it's great to see the new CEO spending months fiddling about with cheap, plastic designs for a new crest!! As for the timing, typical FAW. The new kit wasn't launched at all, merely appeared as a tiny pen picture on the website one random day. They've just released the new kit, but with the old crest, at the same time the new crest is announced. Erm, logic?? thought process?!?! The link to the FAW megastore still isn't working, although they've at least used new pics of Bellamy and Earnie in the new kit! I'm up for boycotting the new crest as well....

You can contact the FAW via their website to let them know what you think of their lovely new design...

Good thinking, I've just done exactly that. Changing our badge smacks of rearranging deckchairs as the Titanic sinks. As I said in my complaint to them, its one of the few things we can all be proud of and then they go and change it

Any legal eagles here?
So it appears that the new crest can now be copyrighted.
Couldn't a minor change have been made to the existing crest?Say, change the claws' colour from blue to green and then have that copyrighted?
