I know it's been written on this forum many times that it does not matter what level our players are playing at, how about this situation a month before our next qualifier.....
D. Collins - in the Stoke side again today Gabbidon - starting for West Ham today J. Collins - starting for Villa today Eardley - picked regularly for Blackpool
If these boys are still regularly starting in the premiership this month, can they really be ignored for Bulgaria game?

Brian Flynn will do the right thing.

FYI Five live suggested Gabbidon looked tired at the end of the game and not quite at the races. It'll be interesting to see if he improves through the month and it's just possible he could be ready by Bulgaria!

Gabbidon has been crocked for ages, and I think it may be too late in his career to fix himself properly.

I wouldn't mind if Danny Collins comes back, I have reservations, but our player pool is so small. However, if he doesn't, it's good to see Neil Taylor playing at Swansea. I personally also prefer Bale as a left back rather than left midfield (altho the flexibility is a good thing, gives us options). I agree, I wouldn't rush Gabs back. If he plays regularly and gets some form great, if not he's a liability and James Collins/Ashley Williams is fine. We have a plethora of right backs, at present Gunter is the best for me, I'm not sure if everyone was fit (not that that's ever a problem) that Eardley would even make the squad, but it's great to see him playing in the Prem - quite a rise from his Oldham days

I watched West Ham v Stoke earlier. The Welsh Dannys both played left back. Gabbidon was better.

To be honest i quite like danny collins as a left back rather than a centre back. I would like to see abit more of darcy blake and adam matthews also.

Dave Jones really laid into young Adam Matthews for yesterdays performance. I just hope the lad is mentally strong enough to take it on the chin and move on. DJ did have a few words of praise for Darcy Blake though. I'd have thought Blake is more likely to be in Flynns squad than Matthews anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Matthews has had to go off injured in the first half of all 3 of his U21 appearances? Strange stat if that's correct.
Getting back to Collins, he didn't have a 'bad' game yesterday but I didn't see anything that made me go 'we really need him back in the Wales team' He's a real Stoke type player- big, strong, gets stuck in, boots the ball a long way.. is that good enough for international football though? I'm not convinced. He's not the most intelligent of players- WHUs goal came from a needless free kick he gave a way in a dangerous position by diving into Valon Behrami. I'd rather not see him do that in Basel next month. Oh, and his passing is abysmal. Full backs get a lot more possession in international football- Other than boot it up the line DC doesn't seem to know what to do when he gets the ball . And like I said before, Gabbidon was better in the same position. It'll be interesting if he stays in the side at left back in the next few games. Yep, he looked a bit tired but hopefully he'll be in better condition by the time we play Bulgaria.
A back four of: Gunter, Williams, J Collins, Gabbidon could be good.

So suddenly Gabbidon is a first choice full-back?! Sheep, the lot of you

I'm not 'the lot of you' llanerch. Plus, it was just a suggestion, and a fairly meaningless one at that, as I'm roughly 99.99% certain Flynn won't be selecting the team next month based on what we think on here...
Anyway, Gabbidon has played left back before - his debut vs he Czech republic for example, where he helped us keep a clean sheet against a very decent side at that time. I think he played LB quite a bit when he first got in the team at Cardiff. Playing him there next month would be good way of getting more quality into our back line, and having him and Ginge next to each other without dropping our best defender of the past few years- Ash Williams.
Really, the post was more aboout pointing out that Flynn doesn't really need to recall someone with an attitude as suspect as Danny Collins. Ricketts, Gunter, Gabbidon and Nyatanga are all capable of playing left back. And Neil Taylor has been playing there regularly for Swansea this season. But I can just imagine the reaction from some of you on here if the smirky Chester twat isn't named in the squad...

Danny Collins should be first choice left-back; Taylor at Swansea should be second choice.
As for Gabbidon at left-back... no. I saw him play almost an entire season in that position for Cardiff and he was OK but he was always a much better centre-half. He's just a stop-gap there for WHU.

I think it was good psychology from Jones - Matthews needs to toughen up if he wants to take the next step. Neither goal was entirely his fault Saturday (hardly any effort was made to stop the crosses coming in, for instance) but he could and should still have prevented both. Blake ought to be on the Wales bench. He can play centre-half, right-back and defensive midfield (as he did Saturday). He's a good utlility player. In midfield, I want to see Joe Allen given serious consideration for the first team if Edwards continues to be benched for Wolves.

He's just misunderstood. Can't understand why someone who has fallen foul of Toshack's massive ego is so disliked by a few misguided people on here. Not saying he is the world's best player or anything - far from it, but he would be a useful addition for us.

Misguided?! And retiring from international football because the manager dared to bring on a championship player ahead of him in one friendly match? I suppose that wasn't misguided at all?! mmm...

Did he retire from international football or just not want to play under JT - I can't remember. I just hope that Flynn is a bit cleverer than Toshack when dealing with players. Using a club management psychology (from the '70s and '80s) and applying it to modern international football has been a disastrous policy. Flynn needs to be less of a stubborn egomaniac than Tosh - which shouldn't be difficult.
Oh, and yeah, misguided. DC is a nice guy....

I imagine that Danny Collins probably will get a call up (I'm not too bothered either way) But will he storm out of international football in a huff again if he's overlooked? Despite one playing in the prem and one in the championship, is there anyone who can seriously argue that DC deserves to be in the team ahead of Gunter, say?
