Jonathan Bond has transferred to England for international consideration.
He has decided to end his association with Wales, having played for various FAW squads since 2008.
Born in Hemel Hempstead, Jonathan has played for the Wales Under 16 (4 caps), 17 (6 caps), 19 (8 caps), & 21 (1 cap) squads but has decided that he wishes to pursue his international career with England.
This transfer has now been agreed by FIFA.

These players really annoy me. They should either commit to Wales from when they play at any age group or not at all.

Make no mistake, this is a real blow. He is likely to be a top keeper in years to come.
What is especially galling about this defection is that it comes at such a cynical time. He was happy to turn out for Wales whilst learning his trade and then as soon as injury transpires to give him a run for Watford he then earns rave reviews and looks like a real prospect....shortly after he decides he doesn't want to associate himself with Wales (despite previously being happy to do so). Its highly likely that had he not turned out for Watford last season he would still be a Welsh player right now.
He needs to consider that Joe Hart and then Jack Butland have the England nunber 1 jersey sewn up for many a season. I would laugh my fucking ass off if Bond is only ever on the periphery for his entire career.

What a complete tosser, people like him, Rhys Williams and Hargreaves should be made to at least refund all the money the FAW have invested in them.
Hope he never wins a cap

It's a pretty shitty thing to do, and as Storm states - it comes at a rather convenient time.
But it's also laughable. Joe Hart will be enland's number one for the next decade. Maybe Bond just didn't want to play internationally?
What must never happen though is for us to call him up should he have a change of heart in the next few years.

He's made a choice that he's entitled to make. Best of luck to him. But I agree with storm and TP: it seems opportunistic; and that he's made his bed and now has to lie in it.

I wouldn't have cared if he'd decided from the beginning that he was English, like Ben Turner. It's the fact he's trying to have his cake and eat it that bothers me. All players should be required to stick with one FA once they have turned out for their side in a competitive under-21s match. Bond is practically admitting to using the Welsh set-up to advance his own career.

I wouldn't have cared if he'd decided from the beginning that he was English, like Ben Turner. He's of dual nationality, why should he be either one or the other 'from the beginning' (whatever that means)? He's both Welsh and English, perhaps more one than the other, but both nonetheless. It is entirely reasonable for him to have allegiance to both.

Bond has been named in the England 21s.

No more English born & raised players in our youth system! Even if it means not getting players like Johnny Williams.

And it's an interesting example using these two players - you want to ditch ALL english born / raised players but there's a huge difference, clearly, in 'how Welsh' Jonny Williams is in comparison to Bond.

You don't have to go through the national youth system to play for the main national team. If he was committed to Wales he'd not join any other countries youth system and wait to be called up to the Wales main team. Plenty of English born and English brought up players have played for us without going through the youth ranks.
Only Welsh born or a player that has been brought up in Wales should play in the Welsh youth ranks!!!!!

We'll win some ( Collison, Joniesta etc) and we'll lose a few (Bond, Rhys Williams) You are totally overreacting.

I'm just glad that we have that 5 year compulsory schooling rule in place. What we would do without Andy Dorman I don't know. And just wait until Ryan Shawcross realises the error of his ways and turns his back on England

My view is that an u21 cap at a qualifier should lock a player with that nation. I do think that abwales is wrong on more than one level. Thanks to Toshack and Flynn youth matters in Welsh Football, as does the way we play and the way we teach young people to play (in the way that Glenn Hoddle wants England to do). If the likes of Joniesta feel Welsh, despite having been born and/or raised in England, then he is one of us and my goodness, I am proud of him. To claim we could gain players irrespective of a youth set up simply fails to learn the lessons from the pre-Toshack era. I wonder whether Robson-Kanu would be doing us proud in a Welsh shirt for the senior side were it not for such an outstanding u21 set up at that time?

Bond and Williams were both called up to Senior sqauds for competitive games and therefore if injuries had occured they could have been capped at senior levels. Therefore, they were commited enough to sit on the bench with the possiblity of being capped then and be committed to Wales for the rest of their international career. So to change your mind after that is wrong and and taking the piss.

I'm sure Bond will have a successful international career like Dave Jones, Ryan Shawcross, Ben Turner etc

We need to continue to recruit dual-qualified players despite losing some of them eventually. All countries do it not just us.We just need to be cleverer(like England for example) in making sure that dual qualifierd players are tied to us.
England current under 21 squad seems like a multi national recruitment drive.
Raheem stirling,Saido Berahino,Wilfried Zaha and Nathaniel Nyakie Chalobah all born outside England. Also, despite being born in England they've pinched Bond from us and Eric Dier has lived in Portugal since the age of 10 so could play for Portugal.
Rumours at the time said that Shevley and Caulkner were called up to Senior England side to stop the advances of Scotland.
On the subject of 'you win some, you lose some', Victor Moses played at youth level for England but opted to play for Nigeria so it happens to all of us.

The english also lost Frimpong - and tried to get Kasper Schmeichel at one stage.
I do think players need to be smart though, Shawcross must know that he's never ever going to be an england regular. That said, the england supporting twat can watch on as we qualify for the next Euros whilst he's sitting at home.

Fair enough if the likes of bond want to play for the country they consider home. Just hope England do not stop players pursuing alternative international options through their apparent fear of losing some quality players. Can't think of when this has happened, so really don't understand why shawcross was even considered by them - maybe Ben turner was persuaded to wait for an opportunity too. The problem is once these players turn out for a friendly then they are unable to play for any of the remaining home nations.

But Alex Bruce has switched to Northern Ireland after playing for Eire in two friendlies. So Shawcross could still play for us, at least that is my understanding.
I'd rather eat my own eyes than see it happen of course....
