Australian youngsters are encouraged by the leeches (agents) to declare for any country that they might qualify for knowing full well that it doesn't count until the seniors. This has been a big problem in Australian football for a long time. It was only a very forward thinking Eddie Thompson who capped Harry Kewell as a 16 year old which stopped him playing for England. Viduka ummed and ahhed about playing for croatia and there were three aussies in the croatian team in 2006. So Rhys Williams is not unique from their perspective. He went to M'boro on the back of a grandfather but was only really chased by Pim Verbeek once he'd played for Wales. Aus football is on the rise and they will regularly qualify for big tournaments as Asia only has three strong teams in Aus Korea and Japan. The problem Aus has is getting the stars back for friendlies but they overcame that when Terry Venables thought of the bright idea of playing in London. Smart move. Why Wales can't get their players back for friendlies is scandalous. So Rhys Williams is a villain of sorts but in these times of multiculturalism and dual qualification it is difficult to mount a case against him.
