The timings of Welsh retirements are all wrong again, but at least this one won't be missed....we've not seen him in about 5 years!!

Wonder who will be the first one to try and blame Tosh?
Still, what a staggering piece of arrogance. At least the ludicrous will he/won't he be fit discussion won't be had each and every time a squad is announced. Let Blake/Ribeiro/Nyatanga etc battle for the shirt.

What is it with players and timing their international retirements?!
Gabbidon's missed so many Wales games over the years, could have easily retired when Toshack was in charge, and yet decides to retire after being announced in Flynn's first squad!! Brilliant timing there....
Disappointed with Gabbidon, but with the amount of injuries he's had it's not totally unexpected. Luckily Ashley Williams has come through and to all effects replaced him.
A great player for Cardiff and Wales a few years back but his recent performances for Wales (Montenegro away, Russia home) have proved his best years have passed him by sadly.
As ever, we move on...

His valedictory is obviously taking the piss. Good riddance. He should not have been picked after Cyprus.

Whoever would have thought that bringing Danny Collins back would turn out to be a smart piece of business? Looks like a good decision now that Gabbidon is not in contention for LB.
International retirement is a problem for everyone but why is it that the ones who do it with the least dignity and tact are always Welsh? Its supposed to be a new era and our national setup is STILL being made to look a laughing stock. Not amused.

What an absolute tit. Once again one of the so called senior players shows disrespect to the shirt. Why so close to the match? The absolute knob-end. The amount of times we put him in the squad ahead of others who deserved it more is ridiculous. How many players is that who have retired in the past year, I bet you could make a squad out of the turncoats.

Good riddance to the useless cunt. He hasn't done anything for us for several years, except for arguably being at fault for our defeat in a friendly in Montenegro. His retirement now shows a distinct lack of class.

....SIGH.....
ok so we wont miss gabbidon that much but that's not really the point here, this is a becoming a joke now with all these retirements, something need's to be done or the whole international football scene will become a thing of the past
we have club managers moaning about the amount of matches we play, the timing of the matches as a result of all this players are retiring left, right and centre and its far too easy for them to do so!
flynn's been in the job 2 minutes and he's had the bellamy thing to contend with and now this,he must feel like taking a back seat already
we are a complete and utter shambles

Rubbish timing once more. We're not really going to miss him though- he last played well for us 3 years ago.

I have said it before and I will say it again, International football is now of very little importance to the masses and I fear it will die a death as a major part of the football scene within the next twenty years.
Although it would appear that we have more retirements / pull outs than most this is not a desease on which we have a monopoly. It is happening to a lot of other countries as well, it is just that as they are bigger nations they can absorb the shortfall better then we can.
I am sure if someone was to start a thread called "Retired From International Football In The Last Two Years" we could probably amass 100 names between us.
Apart from the Welsh 10 or how many it is just without thinking I will start the list with
Carragher Scholes Deco Berbatov Ferguson
I do not posess a great world knowledge of football and there is 5 without any thought. I am sure people with more interest in the "top stars" will come up with many many more.

This is just laughable now...Come on for fucks sake!! it feels like everytime we have game we get some tit who bottles it! Ok Gabbidon has been shite for years and in the times he has played he has been awful. But he is fit again and is playing in the premiership and a new manager has picked for his country him and he retires..Disgraceful.

although i disagreed with it at the time, and still do now, this decision makes his 'twitter outburst' seem bizarre.
why bother dissing tosh when he himself couldn't be bothered with playing for us? tosh had many faults, but he clearly gave a shit.

Exactly. That suggests that he was up for it a month ago and now the games are here hes just decided on a whim that he cant be ****ed anymore. Well cheers Danny. Thanks for nothing.

The only way we will arrest this malaise and apathy is by starting to win qualifiers. It will happen soon.

God his twitter feed has been pathetic in the last couple of days. Retweeting people that are congratulating him on his retirement.
Rio fucking Ferdinand even got in on it. "43 caps for Wales and lead them in some of them. Retired 2day head held high"
Head held high? What a joke.

I think Brian Flynn is being very clever here on two points.
1) Doesn't arque with Dave Jones about Bellamy not playing for his country, Why? Because (you may scoff) Flynn doesn't want him in his squad, he is 31, dodgy knee, disruptive influence, doesn't play well for Wales etc etc.
2) Gabbidon unfortunately has passed his sell-by date years ago and i think Flynn has tried to bomb him out and succeeded.
Brian Flynn wants his U21 players who have been successful for him, slowly but surely (apart from Danny Collins who he does need) he is weeding out the 'Older' brigade.
Also Earnie has pulled out, it's all making sense now.

It will be the downfall of international football. They are being paid way too much money, it makes them greedy and turns them into mercenaries. It used to be that as soon as a player quit international football he quit football for good. Now theres these greedy little pricks who dont play for the love of the game but for cash and fame. The quicker they put a wage cap on the greedy little shysters the better. At the end of the day they are kicking a ball full of air and they get paid more than scientists and MP's who are a hell of a lot more important to society than some thick, moneygrabbing little scrag.
