There seems to be a general feeling that Flynn has to pick up at least 4 points to be considered for the job, but a thought has just occured to me. IF we pick up 3 points by winning one of the games, will Flynn have achieved something in the course of 2 matches that Toshack failed to achieve in 6 years in charge- namely, BEAT a higher seeded team in a competetive game?? Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is the case (or were Slovakia seeded above us?)

Slovakia were seeded higher. That group had Ireland seeded third, Slovakia fourth, us fifth and Cyprus sixth, all those teams were pretty close together at the end. In honesty, that was a decent campaign in retrospect because the average age of the team was very young indeed and we started Steve Evans in quite a few games. To compete with teams like Ireland (1 draw), Slovakia (1 win), the Czechs (1 draw) and Germany (1 draw) was quite impressive.
Probably the best of Toshack's three campaigns in charge.

Wales will win friday. the swiss game will then become massive, hopefully if swiss draw with mont. they will have to beat wales, whcih will allow us to counter attack. shame bellers wasnt in that game, we needed him mroe there.

I apologise. Slovakia were seeded higher than us when we beat them 5-2. But one victory over a higher seeded team in six years isn't great is it? Flynn is pretty much being given a two game audition to try and better Tosh's record against the top teams in competetive games over a six year period.

Flynn is pretty much being given a two game audition to try and better Tosh's record against the top teams in competetive games over a six year period. Last meaningful home competative win gainst a good team was basically italy !!! Despite that i am hopeful for friday, at least we should get an entertaining game for a change.

and we started Steve Evans in quite a few games. You're being a bit harsh there. He was our best player in Dublin. He played above himself frequently. Compare that with, judging by recent posts, Gabbidon, Ginge, Davies...

Compare that with, judging by recent posts, Gabbidon, Ginge, Davies... That was meant tongue-in-cheek. I have often defended Steve Evans on here. Nonetheless, it is true that our squad is a bit stronger now than it was in 2007.

Bulgaria are 54th in the FIFA rankings compared with our 84th. Incidentally, Montenegro (who were ranked within a few places of us when the draw was made) are now in 40th place. Switzerland are joint 21st with Turkey.

id like to think a win against bulgaria would then sling us up the rankings a fair bit, i knew they were above us just didnt have a clue were
a draw in switzerland on top of a win tommorow would be fantastic to move us up the rankings

I don't care about the rankings. A win and a draw in these 2 games would be fantastic for our chances of qualifying for the European championships.
