Isn't it great just to hear a manage rmaking some positive noises about Welsh players and prospects for a change.
The endless negativity and non comments from toshack nearly made me go mad by the end. At least Flynn brings a fresh positive aproach, one that players clearly thrive upon. Whatever the results of the next two games, and despite the Bellamy and Gabbidon fiasco, the build up this week appears from the outside as very positive.

Positive thinking isn't always a good thing. No point being positive if you underestimate the opposition or make sloppy defensive errors as a result.

I'm just realistic. OK, Toshack could be insufferably negative at times, particularly with his five-at-the-back tactics, but we don't want to replace him with a bundle of enthusiasm and positivity, minus a brain (I'm not saying this is Flynn). We need a bit of negativity too.

i dont get that last post mate, we need positivity, ala sparky etc.
toshacks fucking press conferences were worse than a funerel. seriously... the boys being possitive makes them more happier, i.e liek the under 21's and less pressure on their shoulders.
see how far you get if you were manager with your negative approach ,
ARE YOU TOSHACK IN DISCUIGISE SAINTS?

1) Being happy and positive does not mean you're a good manager. If it did, Sam Allardyce would never have managed three Premier League clubs, one of them in Europe. And I don't know which top managers you think are happy and positive all the time - give me an example.
2) Toshack's record as manager of several teams (not just Wales) is pretty good. I am not Toshack in disguise, however, I do appreciate that the man had some strengths, not least his ability to assess a situation realistically - I often thought he was spot-on in setting realistic goals, such as finishing third in campaigns, and then appropriately satisfied or dissatisfied with results in post-match mode. He also left by mutual consent, because it was clear to him that he had taken us as far as possible. If he hadn't been slightly negative, he would still be in charge and deludedly insisting that there was nothing wrong. Which he wasn't.

im with saints, i would much rather be relaistic and slightly negative than overly positive and unrealistic
im not saying we should all be negative but you do have to find a balance
e.g positive: enough games left to qualify
negative: we lost our opening game to the lowest seeded team

Why be negative? Are we supposed to give up even before a ball is kicked? Thats what Toshack was like and it got us nowhere. Since when a positivity been a wrong trait to have especially when Flynn has had so much success with the youth squads. If you want to be negative and critical, go and support England.

this thread seems to sum up a welsh characteristic pretty well..especially the welsh football fan
we have the insanely positive (given our record we have no reason to be)
and we have
the ridiculously pessimistic (who seem far happier when we lose)
will we ever be happy???

Agree, we have a horrific recent record, but having watched Wales for over 30 years, i also know that we are capable of better. The success of the U21's and other age groups over the last few years can only be put down to one thing, the sheer hard work and entheusiasm that brian Flynn has put into the task. On Saturday he went to Wigan v Wolves (Edwrads, Hennessey etc) lunchtime followed by Preston v Reading (Morgan, Church, HRK) later on. Probably went to a youth game in the morning as well !!

very true, he impressed me with all that video. I like the fact that the players have come out and said how much more positive he is and that they feel they can go out there and have go, unlike defensive tosh!
