Hughes has been a squad filler for NCFC for a few seasons now but this season he seems to have to come into his own.
He's not normally a player I would talk about re the international scene but much worse have put the red jersey on.
He done his ligaments last week and will be out for 9 months apparently.
He was released by CCFC for being too small but shot up after signing for us and he just keeps improving. A real shame about the injury and apparently was being scouted ahead of the window. He's been with us perhaps for 4 seasons.
He's Welsh and if Marley Watkins can be discussed here I don't feel too bad about mentioning Hughes.
I hope he has a speedy recovery.

I remember him being linked with a move to Charlton a few years ago. I follow county from a distance and I only hear/read good things about him, hopefully he fully recovers.

Is he any good? Is this the one who played for Newport?

Sounds like he'll be used primarily as a left back but we could do with him being a late blossomer in the middle.

Is he any good? Is this the one who played for Newport? That's the one yeah. Think he was their captain also? Let's see how he does in the champ. Just turned 26 so a good ripe age. Sorry mods. I did a search for an existing thread and nothing came up. Maybe a spelling thing.

A work collegue of mine from Chorley who supports PNE says they are raving about him,he had big boots to fill when Cardiff bought the PNE left back but has done well apparently,if Wales pick Tom Lockyear who Bristol Rovers fans don't rate then maybe he has a chance.

I'm not sure what the Wales managers see in Lockyer and if the Bristol Rovers fans do not rate him at League one then we need to replace him with Hughes or another defender playing well in the Championship. I haven't seen enough of him personally but he didn't look all too comfortable at senior Int. level.

i work in Bristol, and i'm yet to meet a Rovers fan who doesn't rate Lockyer! With Dummett coming back into the squad, we are looking quite healthy at left-back/left centre-back at the moment. but i'd guess that hughes has over taken taylor in the left-back pecking order.

No evidence for the latter yet. Many thought Morgan Fox would have overtaken Taylor but didn’t, time will tell of course.

I think there has to be a point where we say they must be playing a minimum of Championship to be considered for the squad. We need to start getting away from League 1 and 2 players.

Yeah, I also work in Bristol and every Rovers fan I have met have rated him highly’ .. I know a few were worried he was going to go to Forest and think he is good enough for the Championship. I haven’t seen Hughes play yet, but great that we have options playing regualry in the Championship. I’m still cautious over Dummett, not convinced he’ll be committed in the long run! ..

Assist tonight for the overlooked Hughes.

Assist tonight for the overlooked Hughes. The one glaring omission in the squad. Had Giggs been following Swansea at all then he'd know that John can't defend.

Should be easy for Giggs with Preston just down the road

Perhaps, but although John is good going forwards - as he showed against China, he hasn't played as an out and out winger for Swansea - and he hardly has the credentials to do so for Wales, given the competition. A wing back possibly, but I'm not even convinced there either - and Swansea have played with a flat back four for most of the season.

Checking up on Hughes today and see that he's had 4 goals this season,2 free kicks 1 header and 1 right foot volley,i'm told the PNE fans are more than happy with Gregg Cunninghams replacement who btw went to cardiff last summer. Strange omission this,2 assists again last night, unless we have an abundance of left footers already or giggs is happy with what he's got

It is strange how he hasn't had a look in having a better season than John in the same position.
Wonder if Giggs has been to watch him? If not he should sign for Salford.

I can only assume it's because we have a few LB's already - Ben Davies, Taylor, Dummett. Based on club form I'd argue he's ahead of Taylor though, and probably a better cover for Roberts at RB than Gunter.
Don't understand how John i getting a look in right now.

It is odd that a rookie at League One level is preferred to a decent performer at Championship level. There's got to be more to this than meets the eye. If playing style was an issue then Vaulks wouldn't be in the squad - so I assume there must be some beef with him (of him with the FAW).
