It was announced earlier this year, but I'd thought I'd let everyone know that SNCF seem to have now released, at least, some train times/prices for June 16. We've booked on the 19.03 (that's an additional service btw) train out of Lens to Paris. Possibly other destinations available too. Hopefully we won't be the only Welsh boys on that train which inevitably will have England supporters on as well.......wish us luck hahaha!!!! Here's a link that I used. uk.voyages-sncf.com/choose-your-outbound-journey

Be aware - TV have requested to move the ko to later in the day which would obviously affect your plans Yes I saw that article from John Cross, which I think is a non-starter purely from a logistical point of view. Including the fact that UEFA will then need to change the KO of one of the other games that KO that day. Plus of course the infrastructure being put in place to deal with a game in Lens with a 3.00pm ko. Also changing it would set a precedent that UEFA would surely want to avoid. All TV companies (incl those from Poland, Germany and Ukraine) have already signed up to the deal with UEFA so I just don't think it will get a look in. The more I think of it this is a made up story by a journalist trying to write a headline!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the English TV companies would love to change it but it affects too many others who will have a say. Anyway, the train we are booked on is an extra one put on to get fans out of Lens, so if there was a change I reckon they'll change the train time too. At worst we loose £22!!!!

I intend to the Lens game on the day from Paris but I haven't booked trains yet. I did book Paris to Bordeaux on the day of that game as I couldn't get there any earlier. £ 30 quid on the TGV. Its made me rethink my original intention of getting a rail pass particularly as I'm now flying back the day after the Russia game. With the round of 16 being up to a week later and our likely 3rd place giving us a fixture in Lens or Lille I thought I could get back and do some work.

I assume they are talking about an interrail pass from here: uk.voyages-sncf.com/en/#/ Not sure they are on sale yet though (as usually only available 3 months in advance). I know that some tickets have been on sale for the Euros so rail passes may also be available Also another site here selling them but a lot more expensive: www.interrail.eu/interrail-passes/one-country-pass/france

Its not quite as good as it sounds. I fully intended to get one until I looked into it further. You'll have to pay a seat supplement to travel on a TGV service. There's a few around a tenner and some around £ 20 but they're limited so may find train has space but you cant use the travel card and need to buy a separate ticket anyway. I've only booked 1 TGV train journey so far Paris - Bordeaux and it cost £ 30. It would have been more with a travel card without accounting for the supplement. You need to make sure when you want to travel and book as soon as you can.

I was looking at the UK site of Voyages-sncf, and tickets Lille to Lens are £6.50 one-way and £13 return. I also looked at the Belgian site of SNCF and there its 7 and 14 Euro return - about 25% better rate... Is there a way of paying the euro price on the UK site? Do I simply use my British credit card at the station to collect the tickets on the day? Are there any special day-return deals?
Thanks

Might be a daft question, but can't you just turn up and pay on the day for a train ? I know there will be mass movement around. Just curious

Thanks I don't know how French trains operate but having booked trains in advance in Germany, Belgium and Austria - you pay with card on the site and they e mail you the e-ticket for you to print yourself. You then need to take the card you use to book it with you (the inspector always asked for that) I would think/ hope French trains operate in a similar manner.

Thanks, CantonWelsh79. As per Welshramdcfc, I would suggest that the simple answer is yes. However, if you look at the Voyages-sncf site, you will see a HUGE margin of prices for the shortest of rides. I would suggest that the minute you get your match tickets confirmed (next week - I hope) you book the train ticket in advance. The way I look at it, if we make it to the semis, I am happy to buy the train tickets on the day. Up to quarter finals, my flights and train tickets are throw-away options (3 each for R16 and 1/4 finals)

Other than the few trains released for the football, the majority aren't available. Around the beginning of March probably although I'll be keeping an eye out. The above tickets on early sale are only from July 1st aimed at their holiday market probably.

Would you say people are better off booking the trains that have been released for the Euros or waiting for the release of the regular trains?

It seems some trains from France to other countries are on sale, but no new ones within france. The link above does state the following: "SALE NOW ON! Your train tickets to Barcelona, Milan and Geneva are now on sale! Travel this summer up to 28 August at the lowest fares! Hurry! Limited seats available!" Might be that trains within France don't go on sale today.

Is it right that for the regional trains, ie Lille to Lens, we can pay on the day?
