Apologies for starting a new thread on this but I can't be bothered trawling through all the other ticket threads.
There was some discussion about whether we definately had to use credit cards or whether Debit cards would be OK.
Something tells me that the general concencus was that only credit cards would be accepted.
As I said, sorry for starting a new thread but I lost track with loads of threads talking about it just before Xmas.
If it is credit card only, did we establish the reason why we can't use debit card?

The UEFA website says credit card as do most of FAQs. It doesn't say why you can't use debit card but why take the chance of having the application refused?

The theory is because the big credit cards sponsor the tournament.
As the above poster says don't take the chance and use a credit card which is valid until end of August (this is when you will receive a refund if you purchased tickets for the knock outs if Wales do not progress)

Certainly don't risk a Debit Card as its very likely to be rejected.
As for the reason why Credit Cards only. I think its more likely that if UEFA were ever needed to refund any money they wouldn't be able to (as an overseas organisation) direct to a Debit Card without being also provided with an IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and a BIC (Branch Identifer Code).
As far as I'm aware these identifiers are required for all international transactions.

I assume we take all the risk on the currency swing with this. If the exchange rates move in our favour we'll get refunded what we pay now, if it moves in their favour they'll pay back what its worth. What about the conversation in and out of euro's, will we take the currency exchange hit twice on something we're effectively not even bought ?

I guess as well they are trying to limit the amount of refused cards, cause some people could have about 10k going out if they apply for 4 tickets for each game in category 1 for some countries.

Did anyone else not have to enter the 3 digit security number in? I can't remember if this was Visa or Mastercard as it was my Dad's card.

Just think about ALL the money UEFA are gonna have in their account from fans all over Europe hoping their team make it for the Knockout stages......mind boggling!!! Everything is weighted towards UEFA, for sure!!!

Just in case you didn't know, there are a handful of credit cards that do not charge any fees when being used abroad or for a foreign money transaction. I use Halifax Clarity MasterCardYou can read about the others on Money Saving Expert

i used a credit card, my dad used a debit card
decided that was a better option than putting both on the credit card
one thing is i've used ticket sites in the past that were credit card only, i've tried a debit card and it immediately rejects it, won't even let you apply
this gives me some hope that his debit card will be ok as it actually let him apply with it, we'll soon know i guess

www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/european-championships/relief-for-ireland-fans-as-uefa-confirm-debit-cards-can-be-used-to-buy-euro-2016-tickets-34387178.htmlSomeone pointed me to this article re: the whole Credit card issue and concerns by Irish fans. I think this is a disgrace if they're now saying that debit cards are ok. I don't use credit cards and I had to ask a family member if I could use his card to purchase the tickets. Every time I purchase something for a large amount on my debit card there are never any problems and I'd be confident that everything would be processed fine if I'd been allowed to use my own debit card. However, I am concerned about having to use a credit card because although I know there's more than enough credit on the card I've borrowed I've been told by a mate that works in the bank that there is a greater risk of a credit card being rejected when the payment is being processed. They've handled the whole process very poorly and these issues should have been addressed much earlier.

abit silly as i had to use someone elses credit card and would prefer just to use my own debit card as its my money and would not have had to beg to use someone elses credit card as dont own one personally.
