I am not usually a happy camper ... and for between 30 to 40 pound a night per person, I can't see the point of being stuck out in the sticks... The YOUTH HOSTEL in central Bordeaux still has available double rooms (one bunk-bed) at 24 euro per person, including breakfast. Its about 400m away from main railway station... In the historic Saint Jean district in downtown Bordeaux, this laid-back hostel is a 9-minute walk from the Gare de Bordeaux Saint-Jean and 1.1 km from the medieval Basilique Saint-Michael de Bordeaux (basilica). Relaxed dorms come with free WiFi and unsecured storage. Most have private showers, while 2 rooms share facilities. A casual cafe serves complimentary breakfast; lunch and dinner are also available. Secure lockers and storage for luggage and bikes is provided at the reception. Other amenities include a common kitchen and a computer lounge. Address: 22 Cours Barbey, 33800 Bordeaux, France

That does sound good, however, is there an age limit in a Youth hostel? I only need a bed for a night as coming down on train from Paris on the 11th and going back next day.

No age limit at all! You will need to buy an annual membership - but get that from the hostel in Bordeaux ( 11 euro) and not from the UK (£15) You can pay 24 euro and share the room with someone else, or just reserve the entire room for 48 euro. No deposit to pay, but they do ask that if you need to cancel, please give them as much notice as possible! NB - the hostel in Toulouse has a new and annoying policy during June of paying upfront via bank transfer - PM me, if you need details. The hostels in Paris (3 of them) and Lille can be reserved for 10% initial deposit on this web-site. Plenty of spaces still!

Booked in the hostel. Thanks. Only 48euro for twin room. There is no membership involved here as it is an independent youth hostel. Also get breakfast. Just need a ticket now!!

Hi MM, That's an excellent find - well done if you got it for the original 29 euro a night! Sadly, the F1 is now fully booked 9-11 June ... Plenty of beds still at the Youth Hostel, though ;-)

The thought of being in France in a tent in June/July in them temperatures? No thanks. I'd rather slide down a razor blade and use my ball sack as a brake.

If you speak any French there might be a chance of me actually finding nice food in town together ;-) At the moment all i can say is : où sont la brasserie, S'il vous plaît ...
