Anyone looked into this? Having sorted out travel for the group stage, and with the many free cancellation hotel booking, it seems silly not to try and organise things as far as is possible for the later stages. Basically, either Paris on the 25th, Lille on the 26th or Nice on the 27th. So having looked into cheap hotel rooms, some things to note: 1. Hotels in Lille on the 26th are already extremely limited and at silly prices. Why should this be given that no one knows where they will be for the round of 16? Oh, hang on. Group C winners play there. I reckon the Germans have already cleaned the place out. I ended going for a cheap place in Dunkirk close to the eurotunnel for a return the next day. (It was only afterwards that I realised that I had retreated to Dunkirk because of the Germans... ) 2. If you look at Nice hotels for the 27th there are some free cancellations but many of them require cancellation before 22nd June - i.e before anyone really knows where their next game will be. Look out for this - usually you can cancel right up to the night before but the cheeky feckers seem to be trying to catch people out on this one.

Really good post.
I'm OK for hotels but would love to hear of any clever strategies for transport to the knock out games as it will be at really short notice.

Yep, could be. But at least switching from Lille to Lens doesn't present major travel plan changes. Cheers for the link - around £53 out on Sunday, back Monday. Problem is, there's no cancellation refund - and it's bound to go up. Helipad128 is right - trying to keep the travel costs down will be the biggest challenge! Sorry, you're right. If it's Lens it is on a different day. Logistical nightmare, really!

I have two nights in a Lille hostel for that eventually. Just get the train to Lens.

I booked a Gatwick to Toulouse return flight, but have since booked an alternative flight home direct to Cardiff after the game. I'm going to use the outbound leg as intended and have managed to swap the Toulouse to Gatwick flight for a Bristol to Nice flight at noon on 27th, for £15.
Like others have said I think the transport is going to be the major expense, especially if involving a trip to Nice in the summer with little notice. Probably end up going to Paris Lille or Lens by road, unless I can find something reasonable closer to the time.
