Just got emailed the below
We regret to inform you that French authorities have, over the last 2 weeks, stepped up their security arrangements ahead of the Euro 2016 Football Championships and made some sweeping changes. This has had a damaging impact on the permissions and agreements we had in place with landowners and local councils in Bordeaux.
We have been told by federal French Authorities that in light of recent security related events we are no longer able to operate Camp Bordeaux.
We want to assure you that your funds are safe and will be refunded in full within the next week. 100% of your campsite fee will be returned to you.
We are deeply disappointed by this turn of events as we are passionate about bringing good value accommodation to the Euro 2016 championship and have invested heavily in the project. We have never had to cancel a camping site operation before, ever, and it goes without saying that we are absolutely gutted to not be able to operate Camp Bordeaux.
We have appealed to the national level but the French authorities say there is no further negotiation on this.
Within the last month we were told to move operations from council run land to private land. This we did and sourced land at the University, an Equestrian Centre and a Farming community. We had all the usual required local permissions in place but in the last 2 weeks the French state authorities have effectively vetoed all local planning regulations and said that our campsite can no longer go ahead within the Bordeaux Metropole region on any land we contracted and had local permission to use.
We asked for clarification and it seems there has been a change in procedure following the terrible incidents in Brussels. We understand the authorities did not see Camp Bordeaux as a security target or even as a potential problem hotspot. However, their reasoning is that in light of recent events they cannot allow anything that is not related to the actual operation of the matches for the period of The Euro 2016 Championships.
After 2 weeks of appealing we have turned every stone possible and know that the French Authorities are not budging on this. 28 potential venues including Universities, sports clubs, local community centres, Equestrian Centres, chateauxs and private farmland have all been negotiated in a bid to appease authorities. We have had Bordeaux council members and senior officials argue on our behalf but the answer is no. We have been told by French authorities that we simply cannot operate even though we have the local permissions in place and land owners ready.
We gave it one last throw of the dice over the past few days and searched land outside of the Metropole but unfortunately the same security concerns and decisions have affected us. We have had to make this decision now which gives you the booker sufficient time to make alternative arrangements.
It is a sad state of affairs that the world and security issues have changed and become more difficult over the past couple of years, and that the ultimate knock on effect has now affected us all.
