Get some decent travel insurance and watch out for stupidly high excesses.
Consider getting a Euro travel card if you're planning on travelling around with lots of cash.

Get a decent camera if not using Camera phone, that you don't mind losing, upload photos everytime you can just in case.
Its June and likely to be hot so don't bring expensive gear to a game that someone else will nick.

A EURO TRAVEL CARD - Just like Traveler's Cheques, but safer! I cant say this is the ultimate deal - but this is certainly the one I just went for. Fairfx Card, if you click through from the MoneySavingExpert site - www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/prepaid-travel-cardsToday's Euro rate is 1.2766 If you buy more than £600 worth you get £20 added credit ... Thus, making an actual rate of 1.32 when buying £601 on the card! So I just paid £581 and will receive €€767.24 If you prefer to buy less than £600 worth (but minimum spend is £50) you can use my personal referral code and you get £10 off and I get £10 added on to my card - www.fairfx.com/ref/vsgcm2ds
Sadly, you can't get both - I tried it... So only use my referral is you only want £50 to £599 ... A DIRECT LINK TO THE MSE referral link is - www.moneysavingexpert.com/redir/084f7d2a I have been told by a few people that you can get cash advances on the card from bigger supermarkets in France for free. Otherwise, there is an ATM withdrawal charge of €1.50. Still, if you tie yourself down to a 1.33 or 1.34 rate to the Euro this week - this is still excellent value!

If anyone lives in or around London / Reading / Milton Keynes and can walk into a METRO BANK, they seem to issue their DEBIT CARD on the spot. NOT available on-line, though! You can then use this debit card to get FREE ATM CASH withdrawals in Europe as well as fee-free purchases. Note, as this is a DEBIT card, the money is taken/converted instantly. Also, the Euro rate is calculated daily - so you can not tie-down a beneficial rate, like in FairFx Travel Card, above. www.metrobankonline.co.uk/Personal/Using-your-Debit-or-Credit-Card-abroad/

I intend washing my undies at least once during June...whether they need it or not No need to travel with washing powder. Liquid soap or shampoo is perfect. If you enter the shower while wearing your t-shirt and undies, you get a double benefit in half the time ;-) I traveled all around Asia with an American lad who only had two pairs of everything, and his total bag weight (including a sleeping bag) was 7kg! He was always immaculate.

One thing I always forget on these footy away trips - plenty of paracetamol Also if you're like me and only need glasses for distance, don't forget your specs or your match experience is ruined!! Easy thing to forget when you don't wear them all the time.

Back in old days when Ryanair were hard on the 10kg limited on carryon we (2 adults, 2 kids) travelled to Spain for 2 weeks with 4 bags, <40kgs and friends claimed impossible. Giving all clothes in twice and getting them back washed and Ironed for €12 each time was great............... saved carrying excess luggage

Booking a hire car in France then if not paid the excess to zero on booking use Insuranceforcarhire.com Annual policy circa £70 and well worth it despite what muppet at car hire desk will say. They will still block the excess on your card.

They will still block the excess on your card. We are hiring a car from Avis to drive tor Toulouse after the Lens game. The excess is €800 but I can't find a price anywhere for how much Avis charge to bring the excess to 0. I'd rather get it done directly through them but if they charge silly prices then I'll get that excess insurance through that third party.

If its for 2-3 and not hiring again then makes sense to take theirs. Probably €15-20 a day I would suggest is the norm. As I said buying SuperCDW cover elsewhere means they will block the excess off a card but never found it to be a problem. Best thing with buying a SuperCDW policy is usable for a year and trust me I save money by time I have taken a second trip.

To be honest I don't expect tolls to be that bad as even in August I don't remember every having more than a few minutes wait. If take the coast route and avoid Paris I would be surprised to get much of a delay unless an accident. www.carrefour-calais.com/default/itinerary_page/This shows location of Carrefour filling station at Citie-Europe where fuel at the moment is 10-15p per litre cheaper than UK for unleaded and 25-30p for diesel and its within a minute or two from Chunnel exit. Its a 24 hr station that get to main parking area and then follow route down below to get there. It accepts Credit/Debit cards and also a good place to ensure they work. Decent website for fuel prices and filling stations www.prix-carburants.gouv.fr/mobile/infos/62901001
