If you are catching the ferries and want some information on places in Portsmouth to eat or drink please ask. I live 12 minutes walk from there, 2 minutes by car traffic lights permitting.
For starters the one of the nearest pubs to the Ferry Port is The Admiral Drake, and it is part run by a man from Wrexham. It is a bit of a bikers pub at times and does live music at the weekends. It also does real ales, so toshfan will miss that!
If you don't want to eat on the ferry I can recommend great new Italian restaurant which has opened and is very reasonable on prices.
Can give you a list of pubs near the ferry port with my opinions of them including two of my regular haunts, Thatcher's and The Fountain Sports bar which is 30 seconds from where I live, so ask away.
Yes, it is my Wales shirt above the bar.

Anyway, if you still need any information regarding places to go in Portsmouth before you go, especially places to eat and/or drink please ask. Also, if the fuel situation is the same I can tell you where to fill up, nearest or cheapest. There is a very good Italian restaurant within 10 minutes walk of the ferry port. Another 30 seconds and you could!D be in Wetherspoons.

Hello, ferries are delayed on Thursday evening. We have a group of 32 travelling down on Thursday around 930, where would you recommend to fill up with diesel and somewhere quick for a pint or two, chip shop or takeaway? Thanks snowy

Thanks snowy To fill up with diesel do not come off at ferry port. Continue to the end of the M275 and get in the right hand lane. You will double back on yourself and need to be in the left hand lane for the garage after 500metres on your left. You should see the garage and when you come over the flyover. This is the nearest garage. If you can park the coach at the ferry port it is a 7 minutes walk into North End under the flyover. Go to the road you have just come off there is a pelican crossing over the slip road which takes you under the flyover. When you cross over the other slip road turn left and then follow the coach lane onto the slip road on to Kingston Crescent. At the traffic lights you can turn left of right as there are plenty of places to eat to cater for all tastes including a Wetherspoons. There are also quite a few pubs to choose from. According to taste. There is a sports bar, which is the furthest to walk to. As an alternative by the roundabout is the Admiral Drake pub. The landlord is from Wrexham. Give them a bell as they also do basic comfort food.

We'll be looking for somewhere on Thurs night.
Have you ever been to a place called the Ship and Castle?
Seems to be really close and has some good trip advisor reviews.
Thanks.

Fuming, my ferry Portsmouth to Le Havre on Wednesday night has been cancelled due to French port workers going on strike. No alternatives available with cabin space. Not amused :-(

Ideally somewhere we could spend a few hours with good food and a nice selection of beers. The closer to the port the better but having never been to Portsmouth I don't know whether there's much around. Know anywhere that fits the bill?

Hi rtg I live in Pompey as well. The ship and castle is about a 5 min drive from the ferry port. It's good in there but if you are looking for somewhere close there's a pub called the sovereigns literally across the road. It's part of a large travelogue. The food is cheap and cheerful if you are just looking for a meal and not a la carte. Lol

It's good in there but if you are looking for somewhere close there's a pub called the sovereigns literally across the road. It's part of a large travelogue. The food is cheap and cheerful if you are just looking for a meal and not a la carte. Lol Go into North End which is a test minute walk from Sovereign. The new Italian restaurant Bella Calabria is great and good value. The pubs on London Road are The Anchor - does real ales and some food. This is opposite the junction on to London Road. Going left on London Grapes in a converted chapel recently been done out. Only one real ale the last time I was in there. I have not eaten there. On the left hand side 30 yards The Tap - real ale bar and does some food. Haven't been in there for some time and not eaten in there. Just before Grapes. Great Italian restaurant between these on the left hand side. Real fami!y atmosphere and getting very popular. Wetherspoons 100 yards further up the road on the right. Thatcher's Bar - 5 real ales and food at some times, but do not leave it late. The dearest pub on the block. Another 100 yards on the left. Clarence - a chain pub - cheap beers and food all day. A further 80 yards on the right. Fountain Sports bar (where I am now) go over the mini roundabout continuing on the main road for 150 yards on the left. Three real ales, new barrel of Mad Goose on tonight, the others are Doombar and HSB (this used to be brewed locally until Fullers took it over). Spoilt for choice for lagers. Bar snacks only. The bar staff are great. Reasonable prices. The land lady is Swedish so she may gloat a little! For food you are spoilt for choice. My local file shop is 50 yards further on from the Fountain. There is another chip shop, plenty of takeaways including Chinese, kebabs, steak grill, pizza places, etc In addition there is an Aldo's on the right before you get to London Road. On London Road there is a sainsbury local and opposite the Fountain is a Tesco express. There are other pubs to the left on London Road including the George and Dragon withe more just off the side streets including Druids. There is also the option of The Mother Shipton which featured the UK roughest pubs. If you have any more queries please ask.
