Booked my Lille/Lens (15th-17th) accommodation months ago with booking.com. Today, they contacted me to say that the hotel I'd booked with was now unable to accommodate me on those dates, as they are disassociating themselves with booking.com - seems a bit strange to do that so close to a major tournament, but whatever. As I'm sure you can all imagine, I went into a mass panic. I immediately checked other possibilities on booking.com in the area and, most were ludicrously expensive.
Then, the saviour of the day, air bnb. Oh how I love you right now. Not only have I got a place to stay for only £2 more than the cancelled hotel, but it is only five mins walk from Flandres and Europe stations, instead of a 45 min walk with my previous booking.
The relief is enormous!!
As I arrive in Lille from Lyon at noon on the 15th and have a ticket to Russia v Slovakia, being anywhere but Lille would've meant missing that game, for sure. Now, I'll have even more time than I would have had, so long as these potential train strikes don't screw everyone over.

Airbnb were on watchdog a few months ago, some of the people who were letting properties out turned out to rogues
I've just put a search in on their site and its amazing how many 'hosts' joined this month
I suspect the site is a lot safer now but be careful people
Just hope my apartment is kosher now:-/

I rented out my place in Cardiff during the egg world cup. You don't actually get the money till the person arrives and lets air bnb know that everything is Kosher - it seemed pretty secure

I've used it a few times around the world, also have my Bordeaux diggs through the site. I only go where i see recommendations from fellow visitors. So far never any problems

I have never used Aibnb, but read a lot about it on Money Saving Expert as well as bits on the Irish and english Fans threads.
Far too many last minute cancellations form the business / accommodation provider, and it appears perfectly allowed. They may get a bad mark against their name, but all they need then is to change user name...

Airbnb put an automatic feedback note if you cancel the booking.
Easy to add another name BUT problem then is that you have zero feedback hence people are distrustful until you build rep back up again.
