Latest news for Wales v England in Lens
The French authorities responsible for the Northern France region which encompasses both Lille and Lens with regard to Euro 2016 agreed to provide us with a list of key messages that they would like brought to the attention of supporters planning on attending this fixture. These cover a range of issues including transport to and from the venue, potential overlap with Lille and the alcohol ban they plan to introduce around Lens on Match Day.
Messages as follows :
1. The Fan Zone in Lens has a capacity of 10,000 people which reflects the small size of the city. On the other hand the Fan Zone in Lille can hold up to 25,000 people and will be easier to access. Supporters without tickets for the game in Lens are therefore advised to watch the match in the Fan Zone in Lille.
2. Supporters travelling to Lens by train from Lille are advised to purchase return tickets in advance. Tickets can be booked online via the SNCF site : uk.voyages-sncf.com (Menu - Train and Passes - Book Your Train Ticket).
3. Supporters travelling to Lens by car are advised to use the park and ride areas around Lens on 16th June. These will be signposted on all main roads. Free shuttle buses will be available from 11am on Match Day to transport fans from the car parks to the city centre where the stadium and Fan Zone are situated.
4. Coach parking areas in Lens are available for use by supporters travelling from the UK. Supporters wishing to use these areas must register online in advance via the reservation service run by the tournament organiser Euro 2016 SAS. Further advice on this reservation service can be obtained directly from the FAs.
5. The sale, transport and consumption of alcoholic drinks will be banned in the car parks, shuttle buses, coach parks and in all public areas in Lens city centre. The consumption of alcohol will only be permitted in bars (either inside or on the Terrasse) and inside the Fan Zone. This ban will cover the period from 6am on 16th June until 6am on 17th June. Anyone failing to respect this ban will be fined and all alcoholic drinks will be seized
6. Furthermore, the sale, transport and use of pyrotechnics (fireworks, smoke canisters etc) will be banned within the same perimeter and during the same period.
7. No large bags will be allowed into the Fan Zone. Only bags under 10 litres in size will be allowed in (handbags, small rucksacks). Lockers will be available for the storage of any bags above the 10 litre limit.
The above message came Today from the authorities over in France and the FSF Cymru wants fans to understand the following information, about the Lens game in particular It should be noted that there will be CCTV all over Lens and over 1,000 police and security personnel will be on duty during match day and match day minus one, there is a heightened security alert around this game due to terrorist attacks in France during the last 12 months and you are asked to be alert but not alarmed during the tournament and be patient. The French police have powers to act aggressively if there is any crowd trouble at any matches and they can deport fans if required. There is a slight possibility that grounds may have to be evacuated during the tournament, we very much hope this is not the case, but if everyone is sober and cooperative it will make things so much easier for everyone. The French don’t want to spoil the fun for the fans and are hoping for a festival of football for everyone who visits their country but their biggest responsibility will be safety and well-being of supporters so we should expect some inconveniences.

Can someone please tell me what is the point of alcohol-free beer?
As far as I'm concerned it's as pointless as a legal massage.

Can someone explain why Lens was chosen as a host city? Surely Nantes would have been a better choice? It's bigger, has a slightly larger stadium and Nord-Pas-de-Calais already has a host city in Lille.

Serves the Welsh fans right as they have a deserved reputation for drunken hooliganism abroad, time and again at away qualifiers and at tournaments they have been involved in fighting with other fans. Oh wait sorry that's English fans.................
It's like on the Seventh day Owain and Nerys asked God, "you must think Wales is special because you created us with lovely mountains, beaches, valleys and lakes and then you put an even more beautiful country across the sea called Ireland whose folk are warm and friendly who like to sing and drink just like us. What have we done to deserve this".
God went quiet and got really embarrassed before finally saying " Well I had to do all of this because I put the English next to both of you"

I understood that all Fan Zones in Euro 2016 only have alcohol-free beer? I suspect a big reason for this is the British's obsession with getting drunk. We're very much part of that culture I'm afraid. This would probably be a non-issue for a lot of other countries. I'd wager that the main concern over alcohol consumption is because of the UK (is there a similar alcohol ban for the other games in Lens?) On the other hand, there are plenty of other countries whose unpleasant fans and gags don't need a gallon of booze to get started.

Not that bothered about the booze ban on the day but I hope the comment that police have the power to act aggressively is not abused by them

There'll be no petrol in the pumps and the trains will be on strike, still three weeks to allow the French to get another few unions involved. Air traffic control?

What a shit place to choose.

I understood that all Fan Zones in Euro 2016 only have alcohol-free beer? I think this is getting confused with no alcohol in stadiums for UEFA matches. Haven't seen anything about fanzones being alcohol free.

Am I right in saying that it is illegal to drink on the streets in France anyway isn't it? It says we can still drink in the pubs and the fan zone so has anything changed really after this announcement?

There are people on the 'Wales away' Facebook page saying 'panic over, it doesn't apply to the bars and the fan zone'
I think some people have seriously overestimated the size of Lens.ha ha.

It says we can still drink in the pubs and the fan zone so has anything changed really after this announcement? 10,000 fans in town square singing and drinking and causing not that much bother, Police on standby for terrorism, does anybody really think that people will get involved if there is no fighting or trouble. I don't. Too many ways for Police to over react hence they will be told not to and will have members of HM Constabulary provided some backup and support. Fans behave nothing happens.

I'm not there for any trouble like the rest of us, will be on my best behaviour for sure. Shame it's gonna be a nightmare trying to get a drink in Lens as unlike some clowns I can have a few beers and still behave, will be getting the latest train possible now from Dunkirk to make kick off and will be getting on the first train out of there. Shouldn't really be like that at a European Championship!

are there any segregation areas for WaLes - Englans Fans in the town. If bars are open for business then need to target bars to head for. So are any pubs lined up for Welsh only?? Theres a pub Mc Ewans which may be favourable to Celts??. PS. im going to the game so wont be in fans zone.

In this report it just says total ban and them some predictable don't come messages etc etc... www.theguardian.com/football/2016/may/24/england-fans-euro-2016-wales-lensHe said the French police, planning a security operation on an “extraordinary scale” in the wake of last year’s terror attacks in Paris, would stop cars on their way into the city and shuttle fans to the stadium on buses. Alcohol will be banned for 24 hours on the day of the game and all those entering the city will be searched.

You can still go in the fanzone if your going to the game. In answer to your question I haven't heard of any segregation or certain pubs that Wales or England fans are heading to, to be honest I don't think there are enough pubs there for everyone to head to so I'd say 80% of people will be left to just walk the streets and look at the slag heaps!

I honestly found just 4 small bars in two visits there, plus some cafes and restaurants that sold wine etc. They usually allow drinking in fan zones and we have been told that this will be the case in Lens. There will be no segregation outside the stadium, in the fan zones, on the roads to the stadium, even inside the stadium in a lot of areas, this will be the same in all host cities for all teams.
