Match V Georgia on Friday ended 3-1 to Slovakia. The ground was not a lot bigger than Penydarren Park, and I think more people go to see Merthyr then support Slovakia. No more than 4k in ground, I'd say...
Although they played at home, the Slovaks were very happy to concede about 60% possesion and to relay on counter-breaks and long balls. They are very good in the air and from crosses / dead balls - 2 of their three goals.
Surprisingly, they actually looked quite weak defending dead-balls and both their goalies looked a bit shaky.
I certainly want to see Ginge start for us against them, and think that perhaps someone like Emyr Huws off the bench could make a great impact, if its still 0-0 after 60 or 70 minutes. we need aerial defense and threat against them.
Georgia looked decent enough. Great ball skills, but no real killer threats, that i could see. They certainly had a fair amount of chances in the game.

Interesting manulike, whether cookie would pick ginge over over is debateble but if its horses for courses then he should play its an aerial threat. I actually think he should play in a back 5 too but suspect i am in a minority.

Slovakia are taking on the Germans this afternoon. Might try and catch some of that to see what sort of challenge we're likely to be up against.

I shouldn't let it wind me up but it does. This games is on BT Sport2 and in the write up it says 'Slovakia will face England in Group B at the Euro's' And there was plenty of room to add 'and Wales' too. Glad I don't subscribe then ....but I did watch the CLF last night on there for free.

bluetone, they will be the ones with egg on their face when the English go home after the second round and the only "Home" team left for them to cover is that wee forgotten principality

Oh so, don't give Marek Hamsik space....

Someone please give that Hamsik a bad doner kebbab or something on friday night! And that Duda lad - don't much care for him, either...
Please, oh please, bring Ginge in to defend our corners!

Maybe Slovakia are peaking too soon and by the time they meet Northern Ireland, next week, they will be totally burnt out! The only burning we are doing is on the beach in the Algarve - and as for peaking too early ... I think Cookie's master plan is for a very slow boil...

Hope you're right, i can't decide whether these friendlies mean anything but they are certainly making sure teams are up to speed. It makes me wonder whether we have got it right?

Germany are on a very poor run of form but they always seem to turn it on at the tournament

Our initial 29 was down to 27 after 3 days and possibly now down to 25. Teams like England, Germany and Spain have a squad of 40 to 50 to choose from.
