both coleman and speed are 'amongst the contenders' for the job, albeit neither are favourites at this stage.
personally, i have no interest in coleman - i think he's a clown.
but speed; say he gets the job, does this effectivey rule him out of the Wales job - pretty much indefinitely?

Why would it rule him out indefinitely? If he does well in his first season for Swansea, he could well be one of the favourites to take over from Tosh when he finally leaves at the end of his current deal. Others (Martinez and Sousa) have used Swansea as a springboard to bigger things, so maybe that's what Speed's thinking.

would he leave swansea to manage Wales?
if he does well and he has a choice between, say, bolton and Wales - who would he choose?

Speed would choose Wales over Bolton, any day. The salary gap wouldn't be that significant (Coyle is said to be earning around £1m p/a, this would be more than Speed would get with us but Speed would also be doing less intense work for his money.) The chance to manage his country would undoubtedly appeal to a guy who has played for us for at international level over 60 times. And, success with us would be a springboard to bigger things as equally as would Bolton. It took Allardyce God knows how many good seasons with Bolton to get a job at Newcastle. Hughes went straight from a good campaign with us to Blackburn and then Man City.
I think he'd choose Wales. Mainly because of the patriotism thing. But that's irrelevant as he won't necessarily be guaranteed an opening in the Premiership. Sousa only got a job at Leicester despite an extremely impressive season at Swansea. However on a two year deal he'd be a guaranteed a chance to put his name forward for the national team.

saints, i'd like to think that you're right - but i'm not 100% sure to be honest.
it seems bizarre that jenkins has come out and said they wont be looking at speed due to utd refusing permission. that's remarkable - although i suspect it's just a bit of smoke and mirrors stuff - it seems likely it going to happen.

I reckon Speed fancies it (and it would be a good move for him) but Sheff Utd and trying their best to scupper his chances. In a way, this is good sign- it shows how highly they rate him as a coach.

Coleman is exactly the type of manager that Huw Jenkins has warned against. Coleman got the Fulham job when he was Jonny on the spot. Cobbled together a backs to the wall mentality team and from there it was a slow decline, and it was no surprise when he drifted into obscurity at Coventry. I would be surprised if he works again as a no1. Clubs are getting smarter and the Jenkins model is starting to catch on elsewhere.

There's no way it'll go to Coleman- Jenkins is smarter than that. Brendan Rodgers seems to be the favourite now. Shame, as I reckon it would be a great first managerial post for Speed.
