Cheap and cheerful travel to Lyon and back.
Leaving along M4 on Tuesday after work about 6pm. Leaving Lyon early hours of morning after game (if Lyon is like the other places the police will close all the pubs early anyway)
Eurotunnel back on Thursday morning.
Estimated costs for fuel, tolls and eurotunnel about £90 each.
Please PM asap

Definitely need an overnight stop along the way as distance is a killer, did Lens - Lyon on Sat nite / Sun Morn a week ago and it was a long slog.
Consider Rungis at Orly as overnight stop area as Hotel B&B / Kyriad / IBis Budget / Hotel Formule 1 provide the option. We checked in at 2 am and were back on road for 9.30.
Going via Reims / Dijon is option but less places to stop and Paris late at night along Peripherique while busy will be moving.
Rungis is South of Paris and Lyon is circa 4-5 hrs away assumming busy weekday traffic.
Don't underestimate driving distances as concern would not be on way down as Adrenalin will get you there but on way back, hence if get sleep on way down then way back may be manageable.

You are right, apart from the football the over-riding memory of this tournament will be the amount of driving that's been done bouncing up and down the highways and byways of France.
Due to work I've had to go back and fore for the knock out games and my car has done 7,500 miles in the past three weeks and the exhaust fell apart on the way to Lille as well - it felt like I was driving at Le Mans!
It's still by far the most affordable and convenient way to travel if you are trying to hold a job down in-between the games and can fill a car but having done Calais to Bordeaux and Toulouse to Calais in one swoop with a couple of power naps I'm expecting much the same for Lyon.

In the same boat (not literally as we're both on eurotunnel ) as you terminallyrhyl, driving from London after work on Tuesday night. We planned to drive straight to Lyon, but common sense prevailed and we've planned a stop in Reims. Found a 4 bed room for us to share for £50, we won't get there till 2am, but at least we'll get a few hours sleep and still be in Lyon for early afternoon which is plenty early enough. Pity to leave straight after the game and not celebrate win or lose in Lyon till the early hours, but just being at the game will be a special moment

A five hour return journey from Paris was actual hell after Ireland. This isn't going to be pretty!

Hi guys due to work etc as well I am driving back out possibly Tuesday but was just wondering when you get to Lyon where are you planning on parking your cars? Are you planning to come straight back after match then if so consider the Park and Ride for the Stadium, alternative is a hotel close to the centre. Lyon airport is not that far from stadium. Just be careful of valuables.

Yea will be heading straight off after the game mate. Thanks for the advice mate Fill up with fuel before you go to the P&R or have at least well over half a tank. This at least gets you a decent bit of the way to Paris before you need to fill up and er empty bladders. Fill up on Motorway and probably need another one before you get to Calais.

Another option for a cheap hotel is Premier Classe, we found them similarly priced to Formule1, but they were en suite and better quality.

Nice and easy into the city to soak up the atmosphere before the game, and easy shuttle back from the stadium after the game.
